Harry is one of our “honorary shelties” looking for a home. He’s a 1-plus year old Australian Shepard-plus, is a highly enthusiastic bundle of love and energy. Seems like an agility candidate but would perfectly pair with a hiker, runner, or outdoor afficianado. He’s housebroken and not a destructive chewer. He’s discovered his own jumping ability though and four-feet is nothing to him. Loyal to an extreme and immediately responsive to his name, he’s needing some space and partners to join as he loves people and every dog he’s met. Unknown with cats but he’s a remarkably gentle spirit with no aggressive tendencies seen.

Be ready for highly exhuberant greetings at your door! He does quiet down for super cuddling. He revels around exercise in lengthy duration. Harry is neutered and current on vax. He is ready to spend his life with an active home….might that be yours?? Applications can be found on our website www.swcsrescue.com

July 21-Mark your calendars! If any of your animals need a microchip , we are members of the Coalition of All Breed Rescue of Arizona (CABRA), a nonprofit IRS 501(c)(3) organization and they are having another of their low cost microchip and vaccination clinics this Sunday July 21 from 9 to 2:00 p.m. at the U of A Maricopa County Cooperative Extension building on 4341 E. Broadway in Phoenix (roughly 43rd place and Broadway and by the traffic light there).

They will have a small sign by the entrance. HomeAgain microchips, including registration, are only $20 each. Each vaccination (parvo/distemper, rabies, or bordatella) are only $15 each if the dog/cat gets a microchip or has one. These are great prices and reflect low overhead. There is no separate vet examination fee and service is on a first come first serve basis. No appointment necessary

We all know that microchips have successfully been used to reunite lost dogs with their owners. Nobody expects their dog to be lost, but it happens. Dogs have been returned after years of being lost and returned because of the microchip. At these prices you want your pet to have one. Microchips and shots given by a licensed vet and there is no separate "visit" charge. This clinic is open to the general public and you don't have to have an appointment or be a member of CABRA to participate. So come on out.

Welcome Iris! Iris is a pretty blue merle rough collie about a year and a half old. She was on a small farm that didn't have a fence so she spent most of her time in an outdoor run.

Since she has joined rescue, she discovered she likes being indoors and she sleeps quietly through the night in a crate. Iris gets along great with other dogs and loves to run and play, but she is in need of a little direction and needs someone to help her learn the rules of being inside as she did not have much training in her previous home.

If you’re interested in fostering or adopting Iris please contact us, an application can be found on our website www.swcsrescue.com

Congrats to Willow on her recent adoption! Her foster family just couldn’t let her go as she settled into the household so well. She’s a pretty collie girl, loves her dog siblings and her humans, but is a little shy around strangers. She stole Brent and Cindy’s heart and we’re so happy for all of you! 💜🐾

Are you ready to open your heart and home to a special boy named Buster 🐾💜 He came into our program in May. He was at Pinal County Animal Control as a stray and we were told he could be a sheltie mix. Altho upon meeting him we determined that he probably doesn't have much, or any sheltie in him, he is a sweet guy worthy of love.

He is estimated to be about eight years old. He is pretty small at about 20 pounds and could stand to gain a few pounds. Buster has settled in well with his current foster family and is a pleasant guy. He has gotten along fine with the other household dogs but seems to be a little unnerved at rambunctious dog play or activity. He tends to remove himself from such behavior and we think he would do best in a quieter household. We think he would be fine with cats and all but the smallest children. He does not seem to be a very active dog. He enjoys human attention and we could easily see him as a senior companion. We think he will do well in most homes.

Buster has been neutered while in rescue and had an extensive dental. Unfortunately, he ended up losing all but a few. This has not hampered his appetite at all! While in the shelter Buster was observed to have some vision impairment which we confirmed with an eye specialist. He does have some cataracts but the specialist indicates that she does not think that is the cause of the impairment but rather a retinal issue and probably degenerative. So, he can see relatively well currently and gets around fine in the house but it quite possibly can get worse. He does not seem to be in pain and has been adjusting quite well to his vision loss. He readily uses the dog door. If you or anyone you know might like to be Buster’s forever home applications can be found on our website www.swcsrescue.com

COURTESY POST *** This sweet pup wandered over to someone’s home, he was most likely dumped as that happens often in the area he was found. After 2 weeks of searching for his owners with no luck he is looking for a new home of his own.

He’s about 40lbs, seems sweet, gentle, and submissive. He will come fully vetted. He’s just a happy little guy. He also seems to be potty trained and knows sit.

He is located in TX. Please contact Jordan at 936-465-0020 or
[email protected] if interested.

If you would be kind enough to share this post with anyone you know who might be interested it would be very much appreciated. These are tough times for rescues and the animals as more are getting dumped than rescued. Networking helps 🐾

Buster is looking for a home of his own! He recently joined rescue after a stint at Pinal County Animal Control as a stray. When we were contacted we were told he could be a sheltie mix. Whether there is sheltie in there or not…Buster is a sweet guy worthy of love.

He is currently estimated to be about 7 years old. He is pretty small at about 20 pounds and look at that fluffy tail! He is settling in well with his current foster family, has a pleasant disposition, has gotten along fine with the other dogs in the home, but seems to be a little overwhelmed by a rambunctious collie puppy in the house. As a result, we think he would do best in a household with dogs that are a little more mellow, or possibly as an only dog. We think he would be fine with cats, and fine with all but the smallest of children. He seems to be pretty laid back and we think he will do well in most homes.

Buster has already been neutered while in rescue and is scheduled to have a dental. While in the shelter Buster was observed to have some vision impairment and this was confirmed by an eye specialist. He does have some cataracts but the specialist indicates that she does not think that is the cause of the impairment but rather a retinal issue and probably degenerative. He currently sees relatively well and gets around fine in the house, but it is possible his vision can get worse as time goes on.

Buster is enjoying life and waiting for his new family to find him 🐾

Several weeks ago we took a "collie" from Maricopa County Animal Control. As we don't get a lot of dogs in the 4-5 month range, it was questionable if Sparky was a purebred collie. Nevertheless, we took him into the program.

It’s been a good month or so now and he is thriving, continues to get bigger, and is quite handsome. So, what do you think, purebred rough coat collie or not?

Sparky is currently in a foster to adopt home with a senior sheltie sibling.

Is anyone up to foster this sweet boy? Due to a family medical emergency at Moose’s foster home we need to find a new foster for Moose asap. If you can’t foster please share Moose with anyone that might be able to help. A bit about Moose…

He is neutered, up to date on shots, and close to 1 or 2 years old. He has lots of puppy energy and behaviors.

Moose is wonderful with kitties (especially baby kitties), other dogs, and humans - he prefers females and is somewhat apprehensive of men.

Moose would do well in an active home with someone who jogs, walks, hikes, etc regularly. He is not destructive, has not offered to jump any fences or dig, has been good around the horses in his foster home, and is trying his best to figure out his potty training.

He is sweet and smart…as mentioned we need to find a new foster asap, but a forever home would be ideal for Moose. You can find Moose’s story in a previous post if you scroll down. Foster information or an adoption application can be found on our website www.swcsrescue.com

Here’s Daisy! This cute 6 year old girl joined us recently in rescue and after getting to know her a bit we can say she rides well in the car, she might need to learn some leash manners as she is very strong on a leash - mostly because she knows what she wants and goes for it. She likes to play ball and gets along with other dogs.

Daisy is housebroken as long as you get to know her signals, but she does not know the doggie door. We will be going thru our applications to see if we have any matches for Daisy.

Time sure does fly….Becki and her mom Peggy joined our volunteer team in 2009, and Becki's dedication and love for the pups was evident from the first day, even as a youngster.

Now, Becki has achieved a milestone with her graduation from Midwestern University as a Doctor of Physical Therapy! It's no surprise that she's considering furthering her education to study animal PT. Congratulations to you Becki from your rescue family 🎉👏🏻

Meet Buster! This sheltie mix just joined us here in rescue. He’s a very cute 6 year old boy who is currently going thru his vet visits, has a dental and neuter scheduled and has also had to see the eye doctor.

He is becoming more comfortable in the foster home and developing more interest in interacting with the dogs and people there. As for his vision, he has the onset of cataracts and a possible degenerative retina condition, which would require further testing to confirm.

All in all Buster seems like a sweet boy, who deserved a chance to break out of the Pinal County Animal Shelter and find himself a great home. If interested in adopting Buster or know anyone who would be, please complete an application on our website at www.swcsrescue.com

Lassie update - unfortunately the second surgery on her leg was not successful and the bone graft didn’t take. The next step for Lassie will be that she gets to wear this really stylish leg brace to keep her injury stable. It’s been a long road for this girl with 2 surgeries, rehab, and now a brace…not to mention however she got injured in the first place before she got to rescue…but she’s just rolled with everything that’s been thrown her way and is a happy collie girl. Huge thanks to her adopter Art who has taken such great care of her thru all of this 🐾

A Boy and his Dog 🐾

Ben the collie came to rescue a year or so ago and found his wonderful forever family. He became fast friends with his favorite youngster Luke, so much so that Luke did a presentation at school about the rough collie! How awesome is that?!? We got this note from his mom about the presentation:

He told me the kids loved it too! They loved passing around the Rough Collie stuffed animal and all of them answered his quiz questions correctly. Lol 😂 Where does the Rough Collie come from? What are the 3 main coat colors? Who is the most famous Rough Collie? So adorable ☺️ They all loved looking at the pictures.

Thank you Luke for educating others on the rough collie 💗

Meet our latest sheltie Cody ~ He is a senior sheltie that was turned in to the Santa Cruz County Animal Care and Control in Nogales, AZ by his owner. Unknown why, but the owner mentioned some concern about Cody's vision and hearing. The owner was informed that the shelter was full and Cody would likely to be euthanized, seems they agreed to that. Kudos to the shelter for contacting Arizona Border Collie Rescue and Arizona Border Collie for notifying us.

We agreed to take Cody and the shelter and Arizona Border Collie Rescue volunteer Stacy worked to get Cody to Tucson for us. Our longtime supporters Gary and Judith fostered him overnight, then Alan transported Cody to Picacho Peak where they met Bill for the final leg to Phoenix. Ginny is fostering him and will get him into the vet to identify any medical issues but nothing obvious is apparent, his vision seems ok. Cody is a sweet older guy, alert to his surroundings, and looking for a quiet home. Gary and Judith seemed to already be smitten with him.

So, in a matter of a day and a half Cody has had a village of rescuers looking out for him and working to get him in a home that appreciates him. Welcome Cody ~ and thanks to all involved in getting him to us! 🐾🤗

We are members of CABRA which is a nonprofit IRS 501(c)(3) organization that holds low cost microchip and vaccination clinics. They have another of their clinics this Sunday, May 12, from 9 to 2:00 p.m. at the University of Arizona Maricopa County Cooperative Extension building on 4341 E. Broadway in Phoenix. NO APPOINTMENT IS NECESSARY. Just come on by.

They use HomeAgain chips which we think are the best. Chips are only $20 each and that includes the registration. Vaccinations (parvo/distemper, rabies, or bordatella) are only $15 each if the dog/cat gets a microchip or has one ($20 each if they don't). They do have the cat equivalent of distemper shots at the same prices. There is no office visit charge. We know that even the most careful owners can lose a dog or cat and that is why all of our dogs are microchipped prior to placement. These are great prices and particularly because there is no office charge. Come out and get your dogs chipped and their shots current.

Welcome Moose ~ this handsome boy is about 2 years old, and came to us from a shelter in Arlington, TX. He was adopted from the shelter and returned within 2 hours because he was too energetic, then he landed on the e-list. He is very sweet, good with other dogs and we don’t know how he is with cats. We think he might be a smooth collie/shepherd mix. Moose is in need of some TLC and good nutrition. We will be getting to know him, and be looking thru our applications to see if we have a match. If you think you might be the perfect home for Moose you can apply on our website at www.swcsrescue.com
