Can You Read Your Dog's Tail Wag?

A dog’s tail can tell you a lot about how they are feeling. But a wagging tail doesn’t always indicate a happy pup. A loose wag from side to side means the dog feels relaxed and content. More fervent wagging with hip movements means the dog is happy or saying hello to a loved one. If the tail is straight up, it’s a sign of confidence or aggression; down and curled between the legs usually means fear or submission.

Too Hot For Man and Man's Best Friend!

If it's too hot for people outside, it's too hot for pets. Pet owners should watch for signs of heat related issues for pets which can include: lethargy, weakness, heavy panting, vomiting or tongue discoloration. Overheated dogs should be cooled slowly, and they need veterinary care immediately.

Do You Give Your Dog Peanut Butter?

JM. Smucker issued a national recall of Jif brand peanut butter due to potential salmonella contamination, which could affect dogs. Many people give their dogs peanut butter as a treat or as a vehicle for oral medicines, and dogs that develop diarrhea, vomiting, fever or lethargy after eating Jif should be seen by a veterinarian.

Can You Help Pets In Need?

Saturday is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, but people can help shelters any day of the year, even if they can't adopt a pet, by fostering or donating their time or money. A great option for those who can't commit to ownership, fostering gives a cat or dog a calm environment and more personal attention while they wait to be adopted and opens space at the shelter to care for additional animals in need.

Do You Brush Your Pet's Teeth?

For dogs and cats, daily teeth brushing is the best way to prevent tartar buildup, which can cause gum disease and contribute to tooth loss as well as heart disease, kidney disease and other issues. Introduce new brushing routines with your pet gradually, never force them to brush and try to turn the experience into a game,

Does 1 dog year really equal 7 human years?

Nope, every dog year does not automatically equal seven human years, as many fun facts about dogs would have you believe. The fact—which does have some factual merit—came from observations that “average,” medium-sized dogs tended to live around one-seventh as long as their owners. However, dogs come in all shapes and sizes, and what’s “average” for a Great Dane is very different from what’s “average” for a Chihuahua. Paying attention to the “life stages” of dogs, and how they correspond to each breed, gives you a much better picture of how old your dog actually is than equating one year to seven years.

So You Have Covid, How Do You Protect your Dog:

Coronaviruses that affect dogs have been circulating for years, and while dogs could get infected with SARS-CoV-2 after close contact with an infected person, the likelihood that a dog will get sick is low. Nonetheless, people should take precautions to avoid passing SARS-CoV-2 to pets, including following good hygiene practices, social distancing, and have healthy family members feed and give water to your pets.

Holiday Celebrations: Protect Your Pets!

Some plants and holiday decorations are unsafe for dogs and cats, including mistletoe, holly, tinsel, ribbon and lights. Keeping Your Pet Safe During Thanksgiving:

Overindulging in the family feast can be unhealthy for humans, but even worse for pets. Fatty foods are hard for animals to digest. Poultry bones can damage your pet's digestive tract. And Holiday sweets can contain ingredients that are poisonous to pets.

If you beleive your pet has eaten something it shouldn't have, call your veterinarian or local veterinary emergency clinic immediately. You may also want to call the ASPCA Poison Control Hotline: 888-426-4435.

Signs of pet distress include: sudden changes in behavior, depression, pain, vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness or lethargy.

Wanted to shine a special light on a wonderful girl, Lexi. She had a rough start in life, but was adopted by a loving family late in her life. She lived each day to the fullest and had a way of making it known what she wanted and did not give up until she got what she was after!! Her personality was endearing and served her well. She will always be loved and missed by those of us lucky enough to know her! Rest in Peace Lexi!

Do You Know What A Healthy Pet Looks Like?

More than half of US pets are overweight or obese, predisposing them to health problems, shorter life spans and reduced quality of life. Pets in good condition have a defined waist, a tummy that doesn't sag and ribs that can easily be felt, and owners should work with a veterinarian to determine a safe and effective plan for reducing excess weight.
