We take pride in knowing our customers by name and giving back within the communities we serve. Saddle Up, Western Saddle and Tack Shop is a family owned and operated business. We Love What We Do! Saddle Up was started as a retirement hobby by Dick in 1996 and in 2009 his daughter Danna came on board. Today we have over 200 new and used saddles and the selection changes daily! If we don’t have it

today, check back tomorrow, it just might be here! We know that the investment of having horses is a big one so at Saddle Up we offer an upgrade program which is great for beginning riders and of course you! Realizing that you can’t always start with the saddle of your dreams, our upgrade program allows you to start with a comfortable saddle (sometimes not only for you but also for your pocket book) and when you’re ready to take that step up we will take your original saddle back in on trade less 30% towards a higher priced saddle. It’s a great way to test the waters or work your way up to that dream saddle!! (The new saddle must be a new or used saddle that we already own, meaning it cannot be a consignment saddle). In addition to Saddle Up having a great selection of new and used western saddles and tack, we also take trades, consign and buy your used saddles and tack. We are always looking for good quality saddles and tack and so are our customers! So no matter what you need stop in and see us today or shop online! If you don’t see what you need just shoot us an email or give us a call because I’m sure we have it! Thank you,
Danna & Staff at Saddle Up

We appreciate your business!

Welcome back to a very "spooky" episode of The Cinchuation Podcast.

Ever heard of a saddle shop ghost? Well, we got one and Halloween seemed like the perfect day to talk about it. For many years, even at our old shop, we have experienced paranormal events. From items being thrown across rooms, to hearing voices, and even electronics glitching. It could be all the saddle glue getting to us, but something creepy is going on!

We also chat about two legendary saddle makers with a bit of a "haunting" past. Then we dive into the "nightmare" of different levels, divisions, and saddle styles within a few riding disciplines.

Let us know in the comments, would you be up for staying the night in our haunted saddle shop? It would surely be a treat! (or maybe a trick)

Let's talk about Cinch and Saddle placement 🤓

Western Saddles:

Saddle position is solely determined by the shape of the horse and the saddle tree, not the rigging placement. One of the most common things we see when doing a saddle fitting is horse owners wanting to put their saddle way too forward on the horse's back. Proper saddle position plays a huge factor in performance and comfort for your horse. Having your saddle sit too far forward will not only cause damage to your horse, but also unstable riding for you. If you are experiencing rolling, back soreness (especially up by the wither), or sliding problems with your saddle, this may be your issue. What we do at our shop is line up the back of the horse's scapula with the concho of the saddle. Once the saddle is on, take your hand again and find the back of the scapula. Once you feel that edge, look at where the saddle concho is sitting. It should line up with the back of the shoulder blade. You can even check this with a saddle pad on to make sure you are still sitting in the proper spot.

Western Cinches:

The length of your cinch can affect your horse's performance, your saddle fit, and comfort for both horse and rider. The correct way to measure your cinch size is by making sure the buckles of the cinch are clear of the elbow, but yet still below the apex of the curve of the rib cage. The lowest point your cinch should sit is 3-4" above the elbow. This allows clearance and no interference when riding. The best way to get an accurate cinch size is to take a string and hold it on one side 3-4" above the elbow. Then you run it under the horse, to the same point on the other side. You then measure it. This gives you a correct cinch size for that specific horse. Many people are surprised at the results. We have had several customers do this and they end up buying a 26" cinch when they were using a 34" cinch for their horse. Most horses are a 24-26" cinch, no matter what their height is. Some signs that your cinch may be too long include your horse being cinchy and even turning to bite you when your are cinching up. It is uncomfortable to them and they know it is going to cause them irritation so they try to give you warning signs. This is also a very common sign of ulcers, so maybe check with your vet and rule those out first. If you are having to constantly adjust your saddle while riding or always having to get off and tighten your cinch, then that is a big indicator that your cinch is the wrong size. Your saddle may also slide forward, slide backward, or even roll from side to side while riding or when getting on. We have had so many customers come in for a saddle fitting because their saddle rolls. They think they are going to have to invest in a new saddle, when all along they just needed a shorter cinch.
