According to the ASPCA, there are about 6.3 million pets that enter animal shelters annually in the United States. Change A Pet's Life Day was created to help bring awareness to these pets and their need for loving, furever homes 🐾🩷 Even if you can't adopt there are other ways to participate; you can donate to your local shelter, you can volunteer time to walk and socialize the pets, or you can foster animals that may not be doing well in a shelter setting

Breeding soundness exams, which can include performing pregnancy checks with ultrasound to see if the heifers 🐄 are already bred or checking their reproductive potential for the upcoming breeding season.

A lot of cats 🐈 aren't a big fan of coming to see their veterinarian but preventative care is a crucial part of their annual wellness. In order to help the cats feel more comfortable, we often use many different methods; one of our newer methods is "cat-in-a-sack". The compression offers a sense of safety and can help ease timidness for the cats. It also helps keep staff safe from claws of fury!

Many breeders will have dewclaws and/or tails docked before the puppies go to their new homes.

Veterinarians like to do these procedures when the puppies are around 3 days of age. When done this early, the dewclaws haven't yet attached to the bone and nerves haven't fully developed so it's a much easier, less painful procedure to do than when they are adults.

Dewclaws and tail docking are often done for sporting and herding dogs to prevent injuries while they're in the field working.

Dogs become most at risk of developing arthritis at around 8 years old. Canine osteoarthritis is the most common but they can also develop inflammatory joint disease. Both are very painful and can cause mobility issues. Fortunately, there are many options to not only treat, but also prevent arthritis.
