The resources that you have to be successful are limitless. Dummies used to be a bale with home-made horns. Today you can buy every type of dummy simulating the real thing. Beginners have the luxury of being able to learn on pull-behind dummies at a speed that makes sense, where you can build your confidence. Horses are seasoned and ready for all level of roper. There are countless offerings for on-line help videos and the choice of clinics is endless, and mental fitness is now main stream.
In order to be successful you must be able to physically compete but more importantly you must be able to mentally compete. We have filled our barn with positive inspirations for people to draw strength from. We have practices for individuals to hone their physical skills, however more importantly we have practices for people to hone their mental skills. If you are caught saying don’t miss or I think, we will ask you to rephrase to I will catch. If you start your run saying I hope, then you already failed. A friend told us a story of his dad and his expectations for practices…. If you didn’t back in the box with the intent of being a winner everytime then he would let you know your practice was done and you could go unsaddle your horse. If you are not going to mentally practice like a winner then you are wasting your practice.

A very dear friend of ours received news 7 months ago that could have resulted in a dramatic life change. The road was not easy (they never are) but surrounding oneself with the people that believe in you makes the road much easier. With a clean diagnosis, our friend has worked back to the arena and last night had a goal of roping two slow steers.
