Next up...Our Vice-President, Emily Elwell.

My name is Emily Elwell! I am from Gilmer, Texas which is deep in the piney woods! One usually thinks you can’t get a lot of ranchin done here without dogs, but I try my best to get the most out of it! Mostly riding colts/outside horses, taking care of a few yearlins here and there, the occasional day work, and not to mention the vet work! I am a large animal technician here in Gilmer so that help in a lot of ways and I also learn quite a bit more about caring for the livestock!
I got started in the Women’s Ranch Rodeo Association back in 2019 when one of my team mates asked me to fill in for one rodeo and that’s all it took for me to be hooked! Not only is it a lot of fun but to be able to promote this culture with some of the handiest ladies out there is a true blessing!
Each year I found myself trying to get involved in a little deeper and now I am proud to hold my office and serve!
It’s going to be a GREAT year!!

Our hearts are with everyone touched by the catastrophic wildfires sweeping through the Los Angeles area. In light of these events, it seems timely to share this valuable information on emergency evacuation planning for horses.

Additionally, here are some resources that can assist both people and animals affected by this tragedy:

Traveling with your horse? 🐴 Make sure to close the trailer windows! πŸš› Think about all the debris, bugs, and rocks that hit your windshield on the highway. Those same things can hit your horse's eyes and cause serious damage. Keep your horse safe on the road!

🚫⚠️ WARNING ⚠️ 🚫
❌ Every season these rawhide "treats" are available at several locations, but they are NOT safe for your pet‼️‼️‼️

❌ The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell.
❌ Now comes the pretty festive colors and the glue to form cute shapes.
On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.

❌ If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and CHOKING. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.

⚠️ Please leave these pet safety hazards in the stores ⚠️
Do your research or talk with your Vet for ideas of safe treats for your pets. πŸ•πŸΎ
