THIS is why we buy hay.
"June 2020. I had been a volunteer at DreamPower Horsemanship for a while now. It was the one consistent thing I had. The world was shut down because of Covid, I was in the midst of a divorce, I lost the job that I loved, and I was facing homelessness. I was also deeply, deeply symptomatic with C-PTSD (complex-posttraumatic stress disorder). Nightmares, flashbacks, substance abuse, etc. One night I decided it was all too much. I drove to DreamPower completely suicidal. I knew I was breaking the volunteer contract by being there after dark. Long story short, deputies were called. I lived. I had to call DreamPower staff and let them know why deputies were on the property. Martha asked me to meet her the next day at DreamPower. I was certain I was going to lose my volunteer privileges. I was so mad at myself. We met and Martha showed me nothing except compassion, concern and love. She taught me about moral injury, something military veterans and first responders with PTSD often have. She helped me set up a plan to take better care of myself and gave me more volunteer responsibilities. She genuinely cared about me and saw past all the bu****it I was going through. I will never be able to pay DreamPower back. The best I can do is try to follow their example." - Kenna
