How I processed this video as a dog trainer, and owner of a husky/Shepard mix.
1. Hopefully bringing some pure blood back into breeding, maybe one day being able to fix some of the genetic issues we have created in dogs.
2. Probably hella smart.
3. Probably too smart, and will take advantage of any owner that isn't smart enough to realize it from the jump.
4. GSD: SUPER intelligent, can become destructive if not properly trained and stimulated, needs both physical and mental stimulation... And LOTS of it. Already a way over manufactured breed, has been ruined causing a lot of behavioral and genetic health issues.
5. Huskies: independent, hard-headed, suuuuuper hyper, can become destructive if not properly trained and stimulated. needs both physical and mental stimulation... And LOTS of it. Were bred to work independently of their owners, don't give a heck what you say. Will literally keep running until their heart explodes in their chest.
6. Wolves: Well, they're wild animals sooooo why not add back in all the things they wanted out of a dog in the first place? Not to name anything in particular, but their ability to be apex hunters I'm sure won't ever cause issues in a domestic environment, especially not when they are being mixed with such docile breeds.
7. Humans: ruin literally everything, including our own minds, bodies, and planet.
8. Imagine all those reactive GSD's out there at the end of their leash trying to attack everyone, and the Huskies that go crazy and shred your entire apartment because they're bored. Now imagine one that's 180lbs, doesn't give a heck what you have to say, and just decided he doesn't like your toddler pulling on his coat.
Guys. Making hybrids are cool. Introducing new genes is cool. But at a certain point we have to ask at what cost? How many people do you genuinely believe would be able to manage a dog not just of that size, but of that intensity, energy level, and intelligence. And you and I both know, the ones that shouldn't have them are the ones that will get them.
They literally took two of the breeds that as a trainer I see people have the most issues with, and mixed it with a completely undomesticated animal. Considering how many people get up in arms about people owning Belgian malinois because of their intensity level, it absolutely blows my mind that people are encouraging the breeding and distribution of wolf dogs.
Now, I'm not saying it shouldn't happen, I do think there would be a lot of benefit in reintroducing untainted genes back into the gene pool, but it should be done in a conservative manner to ensure the dogs being bred are also being trained and handled by experienced owners.
