🌟🐟 Koi & Goldfish Lovers, Take Note! 🐟🌟

Dreaming of a picturesque pond filled with koi and goldfish? Here’s a crucial reminder to keep their home healthy and vibrant (and "trendy" ponds to ignore!):

🚫 No Bottom Drains: Without these, waste and debris settle at the bottom, leading to poor water quality and potential health issues for your fish.

💧 Poor Water Chemistry: Inadequate filtration and unbalanced water conditions can stress your koi and goldfish, causing chronic stress and poor overall health.

🌿 Limited Growth Space: Crowding your pond with too many fish or not providing ample space can stunt their growth and lead to overcrowding issues. Make sure your pond is spacious enough for your fish to thrive!

For a thriving pond, ensure proper filtration, include bottom drains, lots of room for growth over the years (or decades!) and keep water chemistry balanced. Your koi and goldfish will thank you with vibrant colors and joyful antics! 🌟🐠💧

And that’s a wrap after 4 highly educational days representing the first recognized fish vet specialty at ABVP!

What a great group of veterinarians who take their practice seriously but definitely don’t take themselves too seriously (we had a fun time too!).

So many great equipment leads from vendors - I am excited to add new services to help fish owners and others around Southwest Idaho.

Welcome Trista I Becker, DVM, DABVP-Fish!

Dr. Trista Becker has been working in the field of wildlife and fisheries her whole career. She's worked with research projects and natural resource agencies across much of the US and parts of Canada. She has worked as a veterinarian in Alaska, Washington, Idaho and the southwestern US since graduation from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. She has been a strong proponent of the field of fish medicine and taught many veterinary student externs. She now resides with her husband and two dogs in Idaho as they start a new chapter with a slower pace. She looks forward to spending her time doing consulting and conservation work as well as teaching the profession to future fish veterinarians.
