🥳Update!!🥳

Thank you to everyone who inquired about Tink these last few days.
He officially went home with his new dad today!
His new dad recently lost his furbaby and when he saw Tink, he knew he was ready to open his home for this baby. We know he will be very well taken care of and spoiled with his new family.

We also want to thank everyone who took the time to share this post! You guys are awesome!

Hello! My name is Tink and I am a 4 year old Dorkie (Dachshund and Yorkshire Terrier cross mix).
My birthday is November 23, 2020. I am up to date on shots until next October and have been neutered already.
My dad passed away suddenly at an old age and my human siblings were unable to care for me after such a heartbreaking loss. I would love to have a human as devoted to me as I am to them.
I’m a very friendly and cuddly boy who does best in a one dog, one human household. Sometimes due to my attachment issues (through no fault of anyone else, sometimes losing an owner suddenly can cause those) I can tend to be jealous if someone other than me is getting the attention I so crave.
I do require a natural leader for my new owner as I can sometimes become pushy if I believe I can get away with it and am a very stubborn by nature breed.
I also am good in a crate but I much prefer to be left to wander the house, following you from room to room and being a couch potato. I am, however, a very playful boy with lots of energy and I love to play with my stuffed animals. I am potty trained to both outdoors and potty pads.

Have you noticed your pooch getting plump? It may be time for more walks, less table scraps, and perhaps even an additional visit to your vet.

October 9th is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day! Veterinarians use this day as a reminder to pet owners to keep their pets healthy. While a chunky Chester can be cute, that extra layer for lovin’ may cause serious consequences in the long run.

Confronting obesity is challenging. No one wants to think of their pet as overweight, in fact most owners believe their dog or cat is a normal weight. Currently more than half of all domestic cats and dogs are clinically obese. Obesity can also lead to some serious health issues for your pet. This could include diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, decreased life expectancy, and cancer. These conditions can become very costly. The good news is that pet obesity is preventable and treatable! While some dog breeds are more high risk to being overweight, such as Labradors and Golden Retrievers, there are still several ways to fight obesity. Taking your dog for a walk or, if capable, giving your dog freedom to romp, sniff, and run is a great start. However, if your pet is already overweight, you may want to consult with your veterinarian to get your pet started on a weight loss plan.

To determine if your pet is obese or overweight, you should easily be able to feel your pet’s ribs without pressing on the pet. Your pet’s stomach should also be tucked in, not hanging.

While it’s hard to say no to those begging faces, veterinarians insist that it is most important to practice discipline for the well-being and overall health of your precious companion.

October’s goal is to promote pet health and wellness all year long.🐶🐱🐰🐹🐷

So, how often should your pet have a Wellness Exam?
🐾Veterinarians recommend your pet needs a physical check-up at least once per year. This routine exam is a great way to keep an eye on your pet’s growth and development.

What does a Wellness Exam Consist of?
🐾Your veterinarian will ask you questions about your pet's daily life. This would include your pet’s diet, exercise, thirst, breathing, behavior, habits, potty routines, lifestyle, and general health. During the physical part of the exam your vet will check various parts of your pet’s body, checking for any abnormalities or growths.

Whether you have had your pet for a long time or are just bringing them home, it is never too late to begin providing a healthy lifestyle!
