Who are you to your dog?
These 4 understand/ accept I am in charge, so when I simply stop walking without saying a word, they all notice, pause, and return to me to see if we are changing direction, taking a photo, or what's going on.
Obedience doesn't need to be loud.
I love when clients have long 'graduated' training, yet continue to have class every few weeks, just to have someone holding them accountable and making sure the dog doesn't backslide.
Check out all the fun things Coconut the American Eskimo does now that her behavior is consistent. πΎπ€
Special thanks to my other client pups Sandy & Maggi- paying it forward and helping the next generation of puppers be their best selves.
Watch all 5 dogs 'tell' me that there's something up ahead on the trail.
There is no substitute for time spent with your dog- I can read them and they know me and my expectations. This is a drill we have practiced over and over again.
Whenever we come across anything on a trail- hiker, biker, dog, horses- they are recalled and moved into a sideline sit so others can pass us without being accosted.
The dogs notice the man & dog coming toward us and my dogs are in front of me, yet they do not approach. Instead, they all pause and look back at me for instructions. They respond immediately to my request to come back- because they were expecting it and it's a pattern we practice and reinforce every day.
French bulldogs can be notoriously stubborn, but Pearl's mom got her right into training at a young age, and just look at her!
Sandy the golden has been doing so well in class. Last week she had class with AJ and Sully (doberman) to help with her ongoing socialization. Look at her walking manners! This week, she got to hang out at Cabela's with little Gracie and be brave around a lot of new stuff.
So proud of this girl. π
This momma has worked so hard with her pups. She initially reached out because of some canine squabbling, and the 'problem dog' has become the star pupil... highlighting how dogs thrive in an environment of structure, rules, and accountability.
Love alone will not fix behavior problems.
Check out her dedication- these photos are from several different classes over the past few weeks. My favorite is the one I took coming up the driveway. Rather than allowing the dogs to bark and rush me, she was getting everyone into a Sit Stay for my arrival. π
Deja had her first puppy field trip!
I've been working with this little nugget and her family since she came home, and she's smart as a whip. She's got all her basic obedience cues down at home... so we took her to Cabela's for socialization, but also to practice out in the real world!
She is a star- full of energy, wants to work, follows directions and picks up behaviors quickly. She is an absolute joy- and a testament to what can be accomplished when you get a well bred puppy and start training early!
I handed my dad 8 leashes and told him to just walk haha.
How these dogs responded to someone who has never held their leash before shows how well they understand leash manners and the expectation of on leash behavior.
This family had their previous dog take off on them during a hike, and they (understandably) have a bit of PTSD.
Riley's mom works so hard with her, practices (!!!), and follows our training plan.
It's no surprise then that Riley does so well. Look at her fantastic recall! We have the long line on her for safety, but in all honesty, she really doesn't even need it.
She's doing so well that we've progressed from obedience to doing fun stuff now!
Little Bella the maltipoo pup was working on her recall around distractions this weekend at Riverfront Park.
I love how happily she runs to her dad and how she sticks close by him after he called for her- even with all those children milling around.
