While today might be the dreaded “middle of the week” slump day, we are excited to introduce you to our next Receptionist, who is neither middle of the road nor average like Wednesdays! Alexis is the bedrock and foundation of our Reception Team and you will always be greeted by her smiling face at SGAC in the mornings! There is no such thing as a “bad” or “off” day for Alexis - you can always count on her upbeat attitude and dedication to our clients. She has been at SGAC for 3 years and her favorite things about being here are all the great pet patients and that the Doctors & Team here feel like a family, including Larry, our resident trouble making clinic cat. When she’s not at work she loves baking, tattoos, going to the gym, and sports cars! Random fact about Alexis – she has a fantastic working memory with clients and while she is allergic to cats, she loves Larry! Alexis is a genuine, compassionate and dedicated member of our team and we would be lost without her (and her fantastic memory!)! Happy National Veterinary Receptionist Week, Alexis!

Today we are excited to introduce Jen as she is the glue that holds our Reception Team together! Jen has been in the vet field for 16 years and she has been at Shady Grove for 13 years (WOW!)! Jen has worn many hats in her time here - she started as an Assistant & Receptionist, then Lead Receptionist, and has recently been promoted to Client Services Manager(whoop whoop, way to grow!) She helps keep the front desk staffed, organized, and running efficiently, and has played an integral role in our recent renovation. She is the foundation of our reception and client services team and is always willing to lend a helping hand. One of her favorite things about working at SGAC is getting to hear the positive updates on patients that had been sick, received treatment, and are now doing much better! When she’s not at work she enjoys soccer, working out, and spending time with family! She has one son at home, with another on his way (congratulations!) Random fact about Jen – her favorite animal is a sloth, and she loves sleeping! Jen is an integral part of our team, and we are truly thankful to call her a part of the Shady Grove work family! Happy National Veterinary Receptionist Week to our fantastic SGAC Reception Team! This week we will be celebrating our reception team and sharing a little story about each of them every day! Our Reception Team is the heartbeat of our clinic and are our clients’ primary support system inbetween appointments! Our receptionists are the first and last point of contact for our clients and patients, they help keep our appointment schedule balanced, manage all of the phones, texts, and emails, counsel our clients when they call with concerns, process records requests, and SO MUCH MORE! We could not provide the level of care that we do without our dedicated Reception Team. They work hard every day to make sure that our clients receive top-notch, personalized care for all our furry patients – a resounding THANK YOU to our current Reception Team members Jen, Alexis, Lindsay & Katlyn, as well as a thank you to all our past receptionists who have dedicated their time to make sure our clients receive great support. Reminder that we are starting renovation on our lobby this weekend! Starting Monday our lobby will be closed. Please call our receptionists upon arrival for assistance and remain in your car as we are reverting to curbside service until the lobby is re-opened! See previous post for details.

Exciting News! Shady Grove is getting an upgrade! This weekend we will be starting renovation on our lobby, installing new flooring throughout the clinic, repainting, and redecorating!

We will be open and operating to our fullest medical ability with regular hours during this time. However, to accommodate the work that needs to be done our lobby will be closed starting Monday, March 3rd. This will be in full effect this entire upcoming week, and potentially the following week – we will keep you all posted. We will be running all appointments curbside during this time – so please call our office at 804-421-7422 upon arrival. We are still accepting technician and drop off appointments as well. If you are here to pick up a medication, just give us a call and we’ll bring it out to you.

If your appointment has been affected by this, you have already been notified. For doctors appointments, a staff member will meet you curbside and bring your pet into the building using a safe pathway using our back doors. Exams and treatments will be performed inside by our doctors and team members. Don’t worry, you will still be in full communication with the doctor, just from curbside or by phone. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate through this process – our goal is to provide our clients with a fresh, open, and comfortable lobby to reside in for the future.

Due to the current weather conditions, we are closing early today - Wednesday, February 19th at 1pm. If your appointment is affected you have been contacted directly. As of now, we plan to run on normal operating hours tomorrow but will be re-evaluating as needed so please check back.

These girls have lost not only their home, but their beloved human as well! Their mom has been transferred to a memory care facility where she cannot take them with her. To make their mom’s transition easier, Shady Grove has taken over their care & partnered with a local rescue, Beauty Through The Rust, to help find these girls their new “furever” home! Please help us spread the word! Their mom loved them dearly and wanted to make sure that their new humans would love them just as much as she did! They are 14-year-old female spayed litter mates, up to date on vaccines, have had a recent exam and bloodwork, and will come with a follow up care protocol for their new family to understand their needs. They are a little shy at first but once they warm up to you they are super affectionate & love being pet! They have spent their entire lives together and we promised them that they will always have each other so this bonded pair will need to be adopted together! A Meet-N-Greet is required for adoption and they are currently located in Glen Allen, VA.

Approved applicants: Please plan to visit with the girls to ensure compatibility and an understanding of the care these cats will require. *Beauty Through The Rust former adopters (including one of our own team members!) have volunteered to cover the adoption fee for one of the cats, so you can adopt both fully vetted cats for the cost of one adoption fee!*

Ok SGAC family, we really need your help to get these sweet ladies a new home! Please SHARE with anyone who you think might be interested. Once these two settle in they truly are love bugs! Please reach out to Beauty Through The Rust if you’re interested in adopting them - they are the rescue that is helping us network and filter adoption applications but at this time we’ve had zero applications! They have had recent exams, recent bloodwork and urinalysis, are up to date on rabies, are microchipped, and have just been groomed. We have some of the best clients, please help us spread the word and help these ladies get a new home to spend the rest of their years in!

We are very excited to announce the addition of Dr. Kelley Crater to our SGAC family! Dr. Crater is very passionate about feline and canine dentistry, especially in preventing and treating severe dental disease in geriatric pets. She also wants to make every pet’s visit as pleasant as possible utilizing fear free medicine and handling. As we watch the weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow we have decided on a delayed opening on Monday, January 6th. Our goal is to allow for the roads to become safe for travel and that our clients, patients, and staff may arrive safely. We will continue to monitor the situation and may make further changes if needed. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

If you currently have an appointment tomorrow before 10am, you will be contacted directly to be alerted that your appointment will need to be rescheduled.

If your pet is scheduled for a surgical procedure or a drop off appointment, you will be notified that your drop off timeframe has been adjusted to between 10 and 11am.
