Not only did they donate treats and toys, they also brought bows, bowties, and bandanas so that our pets can look their best when they meet their fur-ever families!

In November, Hanover County Animal Control and Shelter got this mama dog and her two puppies into a local emergency vet until they were well enough to be at our shelter. They were brought in as strays, and were in a very malnourished and emaciated state. Despite the care of so many organizations, sadly one of the puppies did not make it.

We are glad to report that mom and her other puppy are doing very well now! In fact, the emergency vet tech that was caring for the puppy fell in love with her and offered to take care of her until she was ready for adoption - and it was going to be a long road. After about a month of caring for her, she stated that she is planning to adopt the puppy!

The pup's mom is Frita (formally Ginger). A Henrico Humane Society volunteer fell in love with Frita and offered to take her home and foster her through HHS's program - needless to say, her foster family adopted her! Frita has put on weight and is a total cuddle bug.

Best of all, the two fosters connected, so mom and pup will have a playdate soon!

It's so hard to lose any animals, but seeing others benefit from care and find their forever families makes all the work and sad moments worth it.

Ludo is not your average baked potato, he wants to get out and see the world!

Alumni update!

Queenie (formally known as Royalty) has been enjoying life with her adoptive family for a few months now! She was brought to our shelter and later transferred to one of our community partners, Ring Dog Rescue, where she found her fur-ever home. ❤

Her family says: "She is the sweetest girl and fits into our family perfectly. She is a great sister to her human sibling and fur-brother. We adore her and she will be loved for life. Thank you for all you guys did to care for her!!!!"

We love seeing pets adopted from our shelter thriving in their new homes, so comment or message us anytime with updates!

Meet Potato!

Potato is a sweet lady who lives up to her name! She is currently overweight and was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. But don’t let that diagnosis count her out – it’s easily managed with medication, which helps to keep her at a healthy weight and enjoying life. Potato is a very gentle girl who loves to snuggle, and prefers to take her time on walks so she can enjoy the sights and smells. She’s up to date on her vaccinations and she’s looking for her couch buddy!

If you're interested in meeting (or adopting!) Potato, please call our shelter Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at 804-727-8807!

Meet Ice!

He’s a compact guy looking for a special home! He is working on taking treats gently, but he will sn**ch food if it’s within reach. While this might sound like a deal-breaker, his absolute love of snacks makes Ice very trainable; in fact, Ice already knows “sit” and listens well to his handler! He’s already neutered, and his vaccinations are up to date – Ice just needs someone who can give him belly rubs and continue his training! We think he'd thrive in a home without small children since he is still learning his manners.

If you're interested in meeting (or adopting!) Ice, please call our shelter Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at 804-727-8807!
