Many of you may have seen recent reports on news and social media outlets showing the rise in canine respiratory diseases, as well as an unidentified pathogen causing respiratory illness in canines across the country. It is not uncommon to see a rise in viral/bacterial causes of respiratory illness around the holiday season due to boarding. With any respiratory illness most animals will display mild signs and recover uneventfully, but there is always a risk for more serious complications including pneumonia.

This is what we are recommending at this time:

Avoid high population settings when possible.

If it is necessary for your pet to attend boarding facilities or doggy daycare, grooming or traveling, we recommend your pets are up to date on vaccinations including Bordetella and Influenza. These vaccines do not protect against all causes of respiratory diseases, but it does help in reducing the frequency/ severity of those two causes.

If your Pet is experiencing any upper respiratory symptoms they should be seen for an appointment . At this time any pet experiencing these symptoms should follow this protocol for exams

- When you arrive for an appointment please stay in your car and call us to let you know that you have arrived. We will then call you when a room is available so that you and your pet can go directly into the exam room.
