Greyhounds Only, Inc.'s Mission:
Match retired racing greyhounds with adoptive families in Illinois. However, there are always exceptions!

Some facts about retired greyhounds:

1) Retired racing greyhounds are gentle, sweet, good-natured dogs who can live in nearly every environment - from a city apartment to a sprawling country estate. Our adoption representatives help adopters find the hound that is right for them.

2) Greyhounds retire from their racing careers generally when they are anywhere between 2-5 years of age. Considering

the average lifespan of a greyhound is 10-14 years, these pups still a lot of living left to do!

3) Considered to be 40-mph couch potatoes, most greyhounds are your stereotypical lazy dogs. Even an active greyhound typically has a lower energy level than many other breeds.

Planning is underway for our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we need a Raffle Basket Coordinator!

This key role involves:
✅ Providing space for assembling & storing 100+ raffle baskets
✅ Storing empty baskets & donations (transport available)
✅ Coordinating 3–5 Basket Making Days with a small volunteer team
✅ Storing completed baskets until the event

Thinking About Fostering? Read This.

Fostering greyhounds isn’t just about giving them a safe place to land—it’s about joining in on the journey and getting to know numerous enchanting personalities along the way! Just take stories like these from Abby Molina and her family. ❤️

🐶 Molly melted Abby’s heart the moment she looked into her eyes. Some fosters feel like they’re meant to cross your path and you never want them to leave. (This is what’s known as a “foster failure” – because the only way you can fail as a foster is by making that hound a permanent member of your household!)

🐶 Billy had a bit of an intimidating look at first, but his happy-go-lucky personality quickly won Abby over. He was gentle with her kids and even cat-friendly—a perfect match for his future home!

🐶 Irene was one of those fosters who leave a mark forever. She fit right in—Molly’s partner in crime and Billy’s best friend. Abby always talked about who her “forever home” would be with, but deep down, she knew Irene had already found her place in their hearts. Saying goodbye came too soon, but Irene’s joyful spirit and love for life will never be forgotten. 💜

🐶 Hesty & Mable (who also happen to be sisters) bring so much joy! Mable adores kids and loves to lounge, while Hesty is still learning to navigate the outside world with the help of a loving foster home.

Each of these greyhounds found love, safety, and a path to their forever homes thanks to fostering. Could you be the next person to change a greyhound’s life (and maybe even your own)?

Thank You for an Amazing Meet & Greet at Kriser's Natural Pet!

What a fantastic event! With no fewer than 12 greyhounds making an appearance, it truly felt like a return to the energy of pre-pandemic days. We were honored to welcome two GO families who recently lost their beloved hounds—it took real courage for them to attend, and we’re grateful they are considering opening their hearts to another. ❤️

A special shoutout to the Atwaters, who drove a whopping two hours to meet our greys (Pax might just be the one for them! 🤞). We also had several new faces eager to learn more about adoption—Strider, Cali, and Franky certainly did their part to charm potential adopters!

Huge thanks to Kriser’s Natural Pet for hosting and supporting us. We’re excited to make this a monthly event—stay tuned for details! And of course, a massive THANK YOU to Maria, Jen, Shelley, Marcy, and Abby for organizing, promoting, and making the event a true destination for greyhound lovers.

We are thrilled to once again partner with Pollyanna and are so excited that they will be hosting the 9th Annual Greyhounds in the Park event, benefiting Greyhounds Only, Inc.!

The event will be held on May 17, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Pollyanna Social (in the park across from Social) in Lemont. Pollyanna will donate a portion of the proceeds from the day to Greyhounds Only!

Pollyanna Social is located at 326 Main St, Lemont, IL 60439.

UPDATE!! Foster has been found! We thank each and every one of you who offered a temporary home for Franky!

Temporary Foster Needed!

One of our amazing and dedicated volunteers is heading out on a well-deserved vacation, and we’re looking for a temporary foster home for the lovable Franky while she’s away! Franky is a sweet and affectionate boy, though he does prefer a cat- and small dog-free household. :)

Franky will need a place to stay from January 30th or 31st through February 11th. If you can open your home to this handsome boy during that time, please reach out to us at [email protected].

We appreciate your help in giving Franky a safe and cozy place to rest while he waits for his Foster Mom to return!

Thank you, Marisa and Mark, for fostering sweet Maeby and helping her shine!

When Marisa and her husband Mark welcomed Maeby (FKA Paula) into their home last November, they weren’t just opening their door—they were opening their hearts again. After saying goodbye to their beloved greyhound Bennett last May, they decided to foster through Greyhounds Only and give Maeby the care and guidance she needed.

At just 11 months old, Maeby had her share of puppy challenges and fears, especially adjusting to the bustling city. From startled reactions to car horns and trains to navigating crate training and new routines, Marisa and Mark worked patiently with her every step of the way. Over six weeks, Maeby transformed. She gained confidence, conquered her fears, and let her sweet, cuddly, and joyful personality shine through.

Maeby even passed her small dog and cat tests, paving the way for her to find a loving forever home with a fantastic dog dad and a feline sibling! 🎉

Fostering isn’t always easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding. Marisa and Mark’s story shows how opening your home—even for a short time—can change a greyhound’s life forever.

🐾 Open Your Heart to Fostering with Greyhounds Only! 🐾

Dafina has fostered many greyhounds through Greyhounds Only, and her stories highlight the love, joy, and meaning fostering brings.

✨ Mac: Their first foster was a big, tall boy who didn’t need to jump to swipe snacks from the counter! Mac had a larger-than-life personality and loved his new family, even though saying goodbye was tough. Months later, at a reunion, he *recognized Dafina and ran straight to her*—a memory she'll cherish forever.

✨ Lisa: This sweet girl came all the way from Australia and needed extra love to adjust. At first, Lisa refused food, so Dafina spoon-fed her until she gained confidence. At a reunion, Lisa froze with nerves, but even in those moments, her charm shone through as she donned her “Adopt Me” scarf.

✨ Patrick (aka Patsy, aka Baby Boy): The perfect dog in every way. Elegant, soulful, and gentle, he won over everyone he met. Louie, a dog they babysat, used to walk under him because he was so tall—an adorable yin-yang pair! Parting with Patrick was incredibly emotional, but seeing his happy life through updates from his forever family makes it all worthwhile.

Fostering is a way to help these incredible dogs find their happily-ever-after while creating special memories of your own. As Dafina says:
"It's hard to let them go, but I focus on their well-being and the chance to be with so many wonderful greyhounds."

Do you remember the day you were chosen by your first greyhound? Greyhounds Only, with the assistance of Greyhound Alliance, is now bringing in hounds from West Virginia in addition to Ireland and Australia. All these WONDERFUL retired racers need loving homes. We appreciate the support of all the volunteers and adoption organizations we have collaborated with in 2024.

GO pays for all transport, food & boarding, medical care, and any additional expenses to ensure that every hound is medically sound prior to adoption. Our commitment to greyhounds spans their entire WONDERFUL journey from the U.S. and abroad to your home.

Additionally, GO will take in any hound in need, no matter what adoption group the dog originally came from. We have taken in greyhounds who have required substantial medical care prior to their next adoption through GO.

Contest Winner Gets 2 Free Shirts with his/her/their design on them, Special Mention at Greyhounds Only 2022 Reunion Design submissions due by: August 15, 2022 Registration Guidelines: Anyone 18 years or older living in the continental United States. (Yes, you can enter even if you have not adopted from Greyhounds Only!) Design Criteria: • The t-shirt design must be your own original, unpublished work.
