I was ready to leave my wife after seeing the baby she had given birth to, but she said, "There's something I need to tell you."
My wife and I are both black. We've been together for ten years, married for six. We had been intending to have a baby for a long time, so when my wife became pregnant, I was ecstatic.

Anna and I had been together for ten years. We had two kids, Sophie (five) and Emily (four). I believed I was earning enough. We didn't live extravagantly, but we could manage to take two family vacations per year. The girls had nannies, whileAnna worked from home as a freelancer. I always helped around the house. But it didn't seem to matter to her anymore.
Anna informed me casually one day that she would be leaving. Not only did she leave me, but also the girls. "I've found myself," she remarked. "I WANT SOMETHING DIFFERENT." Weeks later, I saw her Instagram: engaged to a wealthy man, sailing on yachts, and touring around Europe. She had abandoned us to pursue her dream.
I replayed everything, looking for explanations. The worst part was Sophie and Emily asking, "Daddy, when is Mommy coming back?" I received no response, and that crushed me.
Two years have passed in a blur. Life was difficult, but I worked, persevered, and spent every moment I could with my girls. They were my guiding light through everything.
