Gigi's first training session. She is working on building confidence. She also needs to learn how to walk up and down stairs. We thought a good start for both is walking inside. It can be scary at first for dogs like Gigi. It's not even about the task itself but overcoming fear. I have no doubt that Gigi will conquer this in no time.

I would like to formally welcome Gigi to our board and train program. Gigi is the sweetest little girl. She needs to work on her confidence so she can have fun and go places with her family. We are excited to see Gigi flourish.

Oliver Board and Train Day 8.

Oliver came to us as an oversized unruly puppy. His family had adopted him from county but once he was home they realized he still had a lot of puppy behaviors. He jumped on everyone and bit to get attention. Never meaning to hurt his new family but not knowing how else to interact with people. Oliver struggled being over excited and over stimulated. He pulled on leash making walks dangerous and unpleasant. The first 8 days we worked very hard getting these behaviors under control and teaching him new ways to get the attention he so desperately wants. He has come a long way and we are so proud of where he is at. He still has a ways to go before he is ready to go home but he is well on his way. He is an amazing dog that just needs guidance.

In this lesson we introduced down, place, and recall (come when called) for the first time. He picks up on things quickly. He will only continue to get better as he practices more every day.

One of the important skills Tinkerbell is here to learn is the doggy door. Her sister Annie uses it wonderfully at home but Tinkerbell is scared. We have spent a considerable amount of time working on Tinkerbell's confidence and going through the doggy door. We move at her pace to ensure we are building her up to be the best Tinkerbell she can be. We are so proud of her and how far she has come.

Service dogs save lives! Tonight my son, Jesse, had a severe low blood sugar. His service dog in training, Majin, banged on the closed door to alert us to something wrong. When we came in Jesse was unresponsive. Majin refused to leave his side but we moved his to allow the EMT's room to work. Jesse is good now but Majin refuses to allow him more than 4 feet away. This is why we do this job. This is why we educate. Service dogs save lives and tonight it was my son.
