Delta Rescue: A sanctuary of hope for animals abandoned in the wilderness, where up to 1,500 cats and dogs are given a second chance at life. Nestled on 115 acres of land in the Santa Clarita Valley, Delta Rescue is the world’s largest no-kill, care for life animal sanctuary. Dedicated to the welfare of animals, Delta Rescue is a 45-year-old non-profit organization with a mission to rescue and protect those who cannot speak for themselves.

In 1986 I started the DELTA Rescue fire department to protect our animals (deltarescue.org) from fires. I know that in a real firestorm the fire department resources are tapped and they cannot help us.

This is the Acton fire just two miles away from the sanctuary. The winds were in our favor and our own fire department ready. We currently have six engines, a water tender, and five fire pumps each connected to 10,000 gallons of water, to protect our 115-acres of rescued dogs, cats and horses. Our technical advisor is a retired LA County fire captain who also trains our fire crew.

This is Ben! He was abandoned at the border by illegals and left to starve. A kind border patrol agent gave Ben some of her lunch and he followed her from there. When she drove off he just waited in the same spot until she returned the next day. After a week he jumped in her patrol car and she was stuck. She ran out of friends and family to give another desperate dog a home. Hearing through other agents that we helped out when we had room, she got in touch. And when Ben got to his new yard, adobe house and a pool … plus all the food he could ever want … he literally ran around the yard with absolute joy. That was two months and ten pounds ago. From hunger, dehydration and depression, Ben has turned into who he was meant to be. And my promise to him and up to 1500 other rescued dogs, cats and horses is that this will never happen to them again. And that can only happen under my watchful eyes at our care for life sanctuary. To get Ben’s full story, more than I can post here, go to our web site and sign up for our monthly newsletter.

Have you ever met a Turkish Van?
One just flew in from Qutar.
About 18-years-ago I opened my door where I lived on a hill without neighbors. One dark night I opened my door and I looked down and I saw a beautiful nine-month-old kitten just sitting there. I scooped her up before predators found her. In fact, I could not imagine how she avoided them to find my house. I took her in and named her Muffy. A few weeks later Muffy had five kittens. All but one were fluffy white cats with orange tails. Years later, by chance, we found a cat picture online that was exactly Muffy and her kids. The breed was a Turkish Van. Of the thousands of cats I’ve rescued over the decades, no others were Turkish Vans. Until Odie! When his head came out of the airline carrier after a 16-hour flight from Doha, I was blown away. You see, my Muffy just died two weeks ago. And here is the cat she sent me. I’ve known for many years that animals choose to pass the moment they do because a cousin of theirs desperately needs their spot. It has happened so many times I can say it is fact. Turkey is not as far from Qutar as we are! There are many other Turkish Van cats in Qatar. But how on Earth did I help save this one? It all happened right after Muffy died in my arms. I know she helped Odie get here. Thank you Muffy.

Did the head of a large crime family really make a truce with the FBI in order to help the animals at DELTA Rescue? Here is the team that recorded the whole event on video. This will be on our website in a couple weeks. I didn’t show his face here so you wouldn’t guess the answer!

Peewee and Mayo. I’ll tell you about my beloved Peewee one day. Mayo was an ET character who appeared in the TV series “X-Files.” I’m posting this as a question. I know my answer. If ETs crashed here, away from home, maybe abandoned by their race, and they need our help to survive, would you help them?

The little ones wonder if Santa Claus is real. Here is the answer! As my father reprimanded me when I was a kid, when I said that there was no Santa . . . all our parents are Santa Claus! They work hard all year to make our Christmases memorable ones. So thanks to all our parents and guardians who made our childhood great. Who was YOUR Santa ...
