Keila is only two, though she looks older. She was dumped at the border. The amazing thing is that after her abandonment and abuse in the field, Keila still trusts people! And this is after someone smashed her on the back with a club or a bat and fractured her spine . . .
so she cannot feel her tail, and she is incontinent.
Hitting a dog is like hitting a child. It is reprehensible. She’s had a hard life but now we will spoil her!

Ramona is a 13 year-old spaniel. She’s had a heart condition for five years. When it gets too hot in the summer, she comes inside during the day to be in air conditioning, and when it’s too cold, she comes in at night for heat. Leo doesn’t have favorites but if he did, Ramona would be one of them!
Every so often, a truly special dog comes into Leo’s life - and Sidney is one of those gems. Here Sidney is getting his intake exam when he first came up from our satellite to our sanctuary.

Carmel is being treated for his injured leg. Nearing 20- years old, we can’t be too careful. Most likely a minor injury, but in case it develops into something we want to be on top of it. Early intervention is the key to ensuring our horses stay healthy and recover quickly.

Rescued as a puppy, Angel was blinded in a desert sandstorm and near death from starvation and dehydration. She’s safe now, but during our recent heatwave, her eyes became sunburned. After bringing her inside to protect her from the sun, we realized she needed a shaded yard to move to—but we didn’t have one. Then, our dear dog Julio, who had been rescued by an ICE agent after being abandoned near the “New River” at the border, passed away from the cancer caused by that toxic river. Julio, sensing his time was near, knew Angel needed the shaded yard, so he crossed over at that very moment, making room for her. This is the kind of selfless love these angels show. We miss him deeply, but we know he made sure Angel would have the chance to enjoy her time here on Earth.

At Delta Rescue, every dog deserves not just love but a safe and warm place to call home. The dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes live in huge yards that feature straw bale houses and a wading pool for those hot summer months. The insulating quality of the straw bale houses keep the dogs cozy warm in the winter and cool in the summer with a design we’ve been using since the 90’s.
