update..
sadly, with all of our efforts, this baby passed today. One of the hardest things about rescue.
4.3 oz—that's all he weighed. A tiny little puppy, but already a fighter.
Feeding the dogs one morning, I noticed one of the puppies was noticeably smaller. Concerned, I investigated further and found that this little one had a low body temperature and something wasn’t quite right. After closer inspection, I realized the puppy had a cleft palate. This was no small problem, and I knew we had to act fast.
I immediately reached out to my rescue friends for help. The support I received was incredible.
A plan quickly came together. Kristina, my amazing vet tech friend, agreed to take the fragile pup early the next morning. In the meantime, I was on constant watch, feeding the puppy every two hours, praying through the night that he would make it. To keep him warm, I used rice bags and water bottles, trying my best to regulate his temperature and give him a fighting chance.
At sunrise, I set out for the 45-minute drive to drop him off with Kristina. But the work didn’t stop there. I still needed to pick up some necessary supplies for tube feeding, so it was back in the car for another 30-minute drive to retrieve the supplies. Thank you Coleen and Linda who were kind enough to provide what we needed.
Then, it was another 45-minute trip to deliver the supplies to Kristina, who was working hard to give this little one the care he so desperately needed.
I don’t think people realize the immense effort it takes to save just one tiny life. It takes a village, and I’m so grateful for everyone who stepped in to help—Kristina, Coleen, Linda, and all my rescue friends. Your support means more than words can express.
Every step, every drive, every moment of worry was worth it, knowing that we gave this little pup the best chance at survival.
