Guess what we got here at Best Buddies!? A doggy treadmill!
I think it's Lincoln approved! ๐โ๐ฆบ๐พ
Our 2.0 Day Camp Arts and Crafts Week was a hit! ๐ฅ๐
๐จ
2.0 not only focuses on training and doggy playtime but we also focus on biological fulfillment and giving dogs a healthy and safe way to fulfill their natural instincts. At the the end of the day our furry friends ARE animals and have biological and instinctual needs. Usually when our dogs are "acting up" it's because they are bored and need to let out some energy.
Does your dog chew or lick things they aren't supposed to? Maybe they dig holes or tear up furniture? Try giving them a safe outlet to let some of that energy out!
This week we've been letting our 2.0 dogs fulfill some of their instinctual needs with snuffle mats and now we are introducing arts and crafts! We put a canvas covered in paint into a ziplock baggy covered in organic peanut butter and let our best buddies go at it! Not only were the dogs drained of energy after but they produced beautiful works of art! ๐พ
Cody is trying out one of our new snuffle mats today as part of his 2.0 Day Camp enrichment training! ๐พ
Snuffle mats are amazing enrichment tools and can help your dog with mental stimulation, strengthen their natural foraging skills, reduces stress, slows down fast eaters, and fulfills their natural biological needs and instincts.
Mental stimulation is so important to your dogโs well-being. Dogs are natural hunters, and they love the challenge of a puzzle. Instinctually, dogs feel like they need to have a job, and can get bored or even sad very quickly without a good outlet for their energy.
Snuffle mats provide an excellent challenge, especially because the treats will be in a different place every time you use it. Theyโre also an easy way to add some fun into your dogโs routine!
Who said you couldn't train a small dog!?
Eevee definitely got an A+ on her first day of 2.0 day camp! We helped her master her basics and even threw in a "Sit Pretty!" ๐ฅณ๐
So proud of our Day Camp 2.0 pups! With each day that passes they just get better and better at their training! A lot of our 2.0 parents have been practicing at home and these dogs are slowly but surely becoming experts at place training.
Practice and patience makes perfect!!!
What would you like to see our 2.0 dogs do next?
๐๐พ
Look at some of our 2.0 Day Camp pups being absolute rockstars!
It can be so hard to wait your turn when there is yummy treats involved but these guys are so good at waiting until their name is called to come get their well earned rewards!
We've been practicing place training for the past couple of months, along with some other training activities, and our pups are becoming such little show-offs! ๐พ๐
Today our Daycare 2.0 dogs worked on place training also known as "Go to your spot!"
We got a bit advanced and worked with two dogs at a time and the pups got it fast! Notice how Cody the lab tries to break the "Stay" command but instantly corrects himself when we use the marker "uh-uh!"
Daycare 2.0 is perfect for dogs searching for more structure and training while in a daycare setting. Not only are they physically getting tired from all the play but they also are getting mentally stimulated from playing multiple brain games and having multiple mini training sessions throughout the day! ๐๐พ
Mentally stimulating activities are the best way to enhance your dogs life while draining that โcrazyโ energy out of your pup (of any age).
TIP: Drain your dogโs energy by using every day activities that you spend time doing anyway... like meal time activities!
Today we we practiced a group "stay" and mastered it!! ๐ช๐พ
Training Tuesdays: "Leave it!"
Hey Buddies! Today we will be going over the command "Leave it!"
This is a great command to use in any situation where your dog is focusing on or trying to get to something they shouldn't be. Maybe you dropped a piece of food on the floor and you want to make sure they don't quickly try to gobble it up. Or maybe you're on a walk and your dog tries to charge for a piece of trash on the floor. If you have any questions please leave them in the comments below! ๐พ
Today we will continue to work on "Go to your spot" but now we will start using it in real life situations like eating lunch! We probably all know a dog that likes to crawl under the dining room table, look at you with puppy eyes, and try to catch any little piece of food that falls. As cute as begging can be, it's definitely a habit we don't want our pups to have. Here is how you can use "Go to your spot!" to keep lunch time nice and peaceful! โ๏ธโจ
Training Tuesdays: "Go to your spot"
We experienced some technical difficulties yesterday while trying to upload this so thank you for your patience! Today we will be learning the command "Go to your spot". As usual thank you for choosing Best Buddies and please let us know if you have any questions! ๐พโจ
