If you scroll down a few videos you will see Rink when he first arrived... Well look at him now, competing for Gold. I may be biased but I think we have a champion in our midst!
Rink will be available soon so follow Lewis County Humane Society NY 501c3 if you think you can handle such grace and excellence!
"You will never see the purpose of someone leaving your life until you see what's best for your life." His words make so much sense in my life alone but to the animals in the shelter... I feel like his words are spoken to them. I'm sure they wonder with each person they hear coming into the building whether it's "their person" coming to take them home. When the dogs come in a lot of the time they are frantically searching for their safety net, which was once their family, their people and now are just metal bars closing behind them. I wish I could tell them so they would understand that one day maybe sooner, maybe later, the life they were meant to live will come for them. The memory of the ones they loved once before will fade and there will only be room for the love they will get when they find their purpose, their place, their family.
Buddy and I went on a little adventure to get them all some Arby's, hopefully that made their day just a little brighter ❤️

**Rink is now available for adoption!!!**
Well a 2 1/2 day break in-between fosters is enough... Right? 🤷. This boy definitely needs some major TLC after being found as a stray on drum. He is likely around 8-9 weeks old but weighs what a 3-4 week old kitten does. He's getting fluids, antibiotics and needs to be syringe fed as his URI is so bad he will not eat on his own. Prayers little Rink pulls through ❤️. Follow the new page Lewis County Humane Society NY 501c3 to see any updates for this boy.
Even though this isn't the normal shelter page anymore, I'm still going to use this platform to promote some of the longer term residents.
This boy is one of the biggest reasons I'm struggling with the fact that I left the shelter. It's been 25 days and honestly the worst 25 days of my life. I've never cried so much .. ever.... 🤦🤷. Anyway. Buddy is going on 2 years (676 days to be exact) since he's been at the shelter. He's had ONE meet and greet that didn't go well... Buddy is, for lack of more flattering terms, kinda an asshole at first 🤷. It happens I guess, maybe that's why we get along so well?. Once you have his heart you will have the best friend you could ever ask for. He can brighten any day with his smile and willingness to please you. Honestly he kinda reminds me of a rainbow without getting too sappy. The beginning is dark and undesirable, then you see the sun shining through, even just a little. In the end you have a rainbow, the moment that makes all that "bad" into something good. You can almost see it when he looks at you or feel it more so I suppose. The feeling of a rainbow... Weird I know, but it's how this boy makes me feel and I love it. I love him.... Please share and help this boy find his place.

One Small Furry Friend
by, Merrill O. Fisher
There was in our home, this small furry friend, who didn’t ask to come into our lives, who didn’t require much help or care. Who didn’t cost us anything, but a little food, who only asked for some of our love and attention.
This friend of ours didn’t hurt anyone, by thought or deed – they only tried to please. All of our friend’s life was spent trying to make us happy. They asked so little, but gave so much. Never were they too tired, too hungry, never too sick to show us love. In every way possible, they demonstrated their love – with the tilt of their head, the sparkle in their eye, the wag of their tail, How they waited for us to show them some attention, so they could show us their love. How they lived the Golden Rule!
This friend was one of our family, a most important part of our lives. They are sadly missed, but we are so much better for having shared their life with us. We can think of nothing, and perhaps no one that has better taught us to give and receive love openly, unselfishly and unashamedly, as the One Small Furry Friend.
RIP littlest.... 💔
Regn had to undergo a second surgery for Intussusception today and unfortunately did not make it through recovery... This one hit pretty hard .. I'm sorry little man.
If you want to see more wonderful, friendly adoptable kitties please follow our new page Lewis County Humane Society NY 501c3 . Stop in today from 2-6 to meet some of these sweethearts! 😍❤️
Worried your pet might be lonely? How about a friend?!! We are open today 11-4!!!!
If you have been following us or have even stopped in to the shelter, then you may know about Lemon. She was in a room where we told people to steer clear because she's not so nice, which just makes us sad for her 😔 Recently we moved her into a crate so we can work with her and well....it's paying off!! She's been with us for 306 days and we can now say she's finally coming around 🥰
Luna did such a great job raising her babies in such a stressful environment. Now it's her turn to find her home! She is such a good girl, so snuggly 💖. Luna could live with another dog who wouldn't mind her corrections. When we introduced her to Blu, she corrected him as if he was one of her puppies. She had had multiple litters and has been passed around from home to home SEVERAL times. She deserves better than this. The best part is she knows how to use her indoor voice! 🤣
We are open today 2-6.
Dash definitely uses all his ninja like abilities parkouring in his kennel. He's lacking a little in the coordination aspect of what being a true ninja would entail. 🤦....
This goofy boy is still available. He's gotten so playful during outside time, tug is for sure his favorite. He even tried to play with another dog through the fence today!!!! HUGE progress. Dash has had zero interest since coming in as a stray. Please share and help us help Dash find his forever home!!!
Someone is feeling more confident and comfortable this morning! We are pretty proud of Jovi at the moment! And of course Caroline absolutely adores him 😍
This is what it looks like for a presumably dumped dog. We have seen no posts about him missing and no calls. This boy has been in a desolate area for a week now before coming in. Yesterday we handled him when he first arrived, today is a different story. He's petrified and honestly I'm not gun hoe about this either. This is not his fault! Do I feel like he is aggressive, no I don't... Do I feel like he would currently react out of fear? Yes I do... Dumping your dogs puts them and the staff at risk. About 2-3 months ago one of the dogs tried to attack me. Luckily a week prior to that a bird was trapped in the shelter. Staff used a folding chair to retrieve the bird and thankfully the chair was still leaning against the wall. I had to fight off the dog with a folding chair. Are my nerves still up in the air sometimes because of this? Yes 100% they are! So am I the right person to help this new boy? Not at this second I am not. Do I think he can sense this? Yes I do. I recognize this and will use caution and A LOT of patience. The point is, when dogs like this come in and we have no history of them and their life prior to ending up with us, it's not always peaches and butterflies. If you can no longer care for a commitment you made, this is not the answer.... 😔...
No comments about this boy being put down, he's shaking out of fear and currently feels comfortable in his kennel. I am a stranger in a new place so his reactions are what I feel, justified.
And no it is not because of my phone...
And no I am not staring at him...
Athena will find her love story. She will find the person who will love her unconditionally, the way she deserves. They won't care that she's "too old". Athena will have her perfect happy ending 💕.
Athena is around 8 years old but still has so much spunk, so much joy, so much love to offer! Can someone see themselves filling their hearts with the love she has to give? Can Athena be your missing piece? She may be able to live with a calmer dog and has done just fine meeting kids!
BEAKER PLAYED TONIGHT!!! He has been with us for 59 days and today was the first time we have gotten him to play. Piper, Hailey and myself all gasped and literally stopped breathing lol. We were so happy!!! This boy is now available for adoption. He is adorable, most definitely, but whomever applies needs to know he will not be an easy cat at first. He was shot and lived outside for a while, it's going to take him time to adjust and I don't mean a week.... Beaker deserves this chance at the live and love that he never had (besides from us, we adore him).
Advocate for your dogs, sacrifice for them, cherish every moment you have with them. When your world seems like it is falling apart you have eternity to work through it compared to a dog's time with you. It's not always the dogs who need to be taught, if what you're doing isn't working, make adjustments for your dog, it's no different then what you would do for family, children etc. They all learn differently, they all love the same! Your dog will try to communicate with you but you need to hear them! If you have lost a dog please consider finding the joy in what they brought to your world in another. Your heart will heal with the love they will give ....
Neo took us by surprise at training on Tuesday.. in a good way that is! He enjoyed himself and was so eager and willing to try all the things! He LOVED the end agility stuff the most. For a thick 7 year old he sure showed up the youngsters. 😂. Neo needs to be your only pet and no young kids as with his age he's getting less tolerant of nonsense. (Same Neo, same) He has been wonderful since being returned. It's hard to imagine him having a grumpy bone in his body but their personalities are always different in different environments. He would make a wonderful walking partner and would definitely enjoy exploring the great outdoors. He also wouldn't mind just relaxing on a comfy couch afterwards. Stop in to meet Neo you won't be disappointed!!!

Lady got her fairy godmother to transform her into her natural beauty! Thank you Mary for fixing this girl right up!
Mary pulled 62 ticks off this poor girl... 😔
Guess what??!!! Dirk may be able to have a doggie friend after all!!!!! He's been struggling pretty bad with his meet and greets lately, mostly involving men. We started him on Gabapentin for pain caused by what is believed to be Lumbar Sacrial Scenosis. Dirk is going to need someone to come a few times, to not give up on him, to see the amazing, lovable, goofy, bullheaded boy that we all see and love deeply. The way he acts really makes us feel as if someone was not very good to this boy. He deserves more in life than what he has experienced. We really believe that there is someone out there willing to give that to him! ❤️
Athena wasn't very fond of Dirks enthusiasm 🤷🤦
