I’m pleased to announce that the proposal to purchase Crown Matting Comfort King mats for our training room passed at tonight’s special meeting. Many thanks to everyone who attended, and many thanks to Cathy Reardon, Josh Schoborg and Emily Mercurio for all their work researching these mats, making phone calls and meeting with contractors.

Because the question was raised about how the Comfort King mats held up to various cleaning products used by the scent work participants, I decided to conduct a test while I am at the club training this afternoon. The three products are the two cleaners that are on the shelves in the training room plus white vinegar. Results will be available at the meeting this evening.

Our last novice rally class was a little different. It was Rally Aloha. Rally with a Hawaiian theme. We had some chsllenging signs - like walk on the beach or dance party- do the hula around your dog. Fun and laughter with our dog.

Volunteer Opportunities

We need a couple of people with power tools!

There are several pieces of an old shelving unit lying by the shed. These need to be dismantled so we can dispose of them. The easiest way to do it would be by using a drill to remove the screws.

There is a downed branch the circumference of my arm over by the trees near the picnic tables. If someone cuts this into 4’ lengths we can put it out by the road and the town will pick it up. A chainsaw would make it easier, but a handsaw would do as well as give you an aerobic workout.

Canine Fitness Seminar at AOC with Jenn Wolfe

Join canine fitness specialist Jenn Wolfe, currently of Alternative Veterinary Therapies, to learn about:
* the purpose and importance of a warmup and cool down for sport/active dogs,
* dynamic vs passive stretching, with demonstration of dynamic stretching using Jenn’s own dog,
* discussion and demo of safe tugging with regard to spinal health,
* discussion and demonstration of uses of fitness equipment (bring equipment you would like to see demonstrated if you have something AOC doesn’t have),
* discussion of supplements to help support tissues and structures while they are still healthy.

Working participants (limited to 10) will have time to work with their dogs and have Jenn critique/help while auditors observe.

Friday, 4/19/24, 11:00am to 2:00pm

Saturday, 4/20/24, 4:00pm to 7:00pm

Cost per three hour session:
$50 working spot for AOC members
$60 working spot for non-members
$20 audit spot for AOC members
$30 audit spot non-members

Jenn Wolfe Bio
Jenn obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology from UNC-Wilmington in 2002 then became a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in 2006. She decided to pursue a specialty in veterinary rehabilitation and enrolled in the certification program through the University of Tennessee. In 2008 she completed the process and became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP). Previously, Jenn worked at Shaker Veterinary Hospital for 10 years and Upstate Veterinary Specialties for 5 years. In May of 2022, she began working at Alternative Veterinary Therapies. When Jenn is not working at AVT, she is usually training her two American Pit Bull Terriers for GRC DogSports, traveling to trials, or attending training workshops. She is the club lead of Adirondack GRC club and business partner of Paws for Obedience.

The floor is in and it looks great! The grid lines are the expansion joints. Now it just has to dry. They also agreed to take the gravel they had to remove and spread it over the gravel portion of our parking area.
