100% Authentic US Grown EVOO:
Emphasize quality over quantity

at Woodpecker Trail Olive Farm, authenticity is our hallmark. Tracy and Curtis, as dedicated growers, and producers, pour their expertise into crafting international award-winning High Phenolic olive oil (EVOO) with less than 0.2% acidity. From every step, whether it's pruning the olive groves or ensuring the freshness of the oil, our meticulous approach shines through. A Hands-On Approach to Excellence:
Our hands-on philosophy permeates every facet, from nurturing the olive groves to the bottling line operation. This approach is why Woodpecker Trail Olive Farm has risen to the ranks of the world's finest olive oils. A Journey Through Time:
Our farm's roots run deep, stretching back 165 years. Nestled along the picturesque Woodpecker Trail route, our 300-acre farm boasts a legacy spanning six generations in Long Leaf Pine forestation. A Legacy of Innovation:
In 2015, proprietors Tracy (sixth generation) and Curtis Poling introduced a new chapter by establishing our 9,000-olive tree orchard. Our exclusive Woodpecker Trail Olive Farm EVOO is born from Arbequina olives nurtured in our Georgia groves. We ensure the olives are cold pressed immediately after harvest, capturing the essence of freshness in every bottle. Join the Journey:
Indulge in the distinct taste and character of our EVOO, a testament to our devotion and the bounties of nature. We invite you to savor each drop and embrace the remarkable story of Woodpecker Trail Olive Farm. Warmly,
Curtis & Tracy (Smith) Poling

This deep green, aromatic, early harvest Arbequina is delightfully fresh, with hints of melon, green tonato, apple, almond, and banana, as an excellent Arbequina should. Delicate and fragrant with a pleasant not too peppery finish, it pairs well in salads, as a finishing oil, and in your favorite recipes. An outstanding go-to for your everyday olive oil, it also dazzles for special dishes and occasions. Very impressed by this Georgian grown and produced extra virgin olive oil, which rivals some of its best European counterparts. Highly recommend! Congratulations Woodpecker Trails and thank you!

Olive oil experience
Tripadvisor review: The Olive Grove Tour
Delightful visit. Owners are great people who have a true passion for their endeavor. Informative, of course, I will be unable to ever purchase my oil anywhere else. Found tasting to be eye opening with different nuances of flavors. Would highly recommend. Take a bottle of wine, bread, herbs. Sit in peaceful environment and enjoy dipping bread in oils while sipping. Olive trees are so graceful & beautiful.

The data also show that patients with a higher atherosclerotic burden might benefit the most from the Mediterranean diet. During the study, patients followed a Mediterranean diet rich in extra virgin olive oil. The Mediterranean diet significantly decreased artery thickness both after 5 years and after 7 years. In contrast, the low-fat diet did not exert any change on thickness of the carotid artery.

The Mediterranean diet also produced a greater decrease in arterial plaque maximum height, compared with the low-fat diet throughout follow-up. Again daily use of EVOO is a winner for good health. :)

The Mediterranean diet is more effective than a low-fat diet in reducing progression of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease, according to new data.

I can’t express how much I loved giving olive tours today! It was a pleasure meeting wonderful folks from New York, South Carolina, and Judy (the olive sock lady) & Jack, who even hand-picked some olives and gifted me my own pair of olive socks. Thank you all for visiting, enjoying the olive grove, and joining the tastings!

We’re thrilled to announce that the Georgia Centennial Farm Award was officially presented to us during a recent ceremony at the 2024 Georgia National Fair. This event, honoring farm owners and their historic properties, was organized by the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, along with the Georgia Farm Bureau Georgia Department of Agriculture EMC, UGA Extension, and Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter. Signed by Governor Brian Kemp, the award was personally presented to Tracy and Curtis Poling by Tyler Harper, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Agriculture. This marks only the second time a farm in Greater Tattnall Chamber of Commerce County has been recognized. We’re incredibly honored that the Simon Smith Estate, established in 1854 (also known as Woodpecker Trail Olive Farm), continues to play a central role in preserving Georgia’s heritage, contributing to the state’s economic, cultural, and family legacy across generations. Here the first photos of our Yaupon Holly, known for its vibrant red berries—its leaves are traditionally used by Native Americans to make a caffeinated tea. The open fields and bright blue skies are stunning today. I’m also spending some time clearing brush from the quieter trails..

Thrilled to have finished planting another acre of Coratina olive trees on the farm yesterday! Not as thrilled about fixing a water line leak, though—likely caused by Hurricane Helene’s winds, which put pressure on the line through root vibrations. :).

Just in case you missed this news (keep using olive oil daily): After analyses of the data, researchers found that participants with the highest olive oil intake had a lower risk for dementia-related deaths. Participants who consumed more than 7 grams per day of olive oil had a lower risk of dying from dementia compared with participants who never or rarely consumed olive oil. Of 37,649 total deaths that the study documented, 4,571 participants died from dementia. Results were consistent after further adjustment for APOE ε4, a genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease.

Study links olive oil consumption to lower risk of dementia-related death.

When Buying Olive Oil: Why Local is Best

With international prices and supply issues affecting olive oil, choosing local options is a smart move for both your health and taste. Here’s why:

Freshness and Flavor: Local olive oil is often produced in small batches, ensuring peak freshness and a rich, unfiltered flavor. By buying local, you’re enjoying olive oil at its best.

Health Benefits: High-quality local olive oil retains more of its beneficial monounsaturated fats and antioxidants, which support heart health, digestion, and overall wellness.

Supporting Your Community: Choosing local olive oil boosts your local economy, helping farmers and small producers thrive. It’s an investment in your community’s future.

Lower Carbon Footprint: Local olive oil travels less distance to reach your table, reducing transportation emissions and supporting a more sustainable lifestyle.

Transparency and Traceability: Buying local often means you can connect directly with producers, offering insight into sourcing and production and giving you confidence in your choice.

Woodpecker Trail Olive Farm: A Local Treasure

Nestled in southeast Georgia’s agricultural belt, Woodpecker Trail Olive Farm embodies values of Georgia Grown sustainability, community, and authenticity. By choosing their premium olive oil, you support not only a delicious, healthy choice but also these guiding principles.

Like a spoonful of the sun

A spoonful of Woodpecker Trail Olive Oil is literally like taking a spoonful of a pristine meadow on a perfectly sunny day. Mild, grassy, a hint of pepper, and if it had a taste, a few drops of the sun. We love it straight up or drizzled over salad, toast, even vanilla bean ice cream. We have never tasted another EVOO like it.
