Jinx's heat is in full force- she hasn't been super hungry and I imagine a little sore. I can relate, but at least I can take pain meds!

I don’t want to push her to train when she might not be feeling her best, so we’re taking it easy and having some good fun with the ball. I thought I'd see if she'd catch it in her mouth and she just stood there and watched it fall. Work smarter not harder!- Jinx.

Happy 2nd birthday to our first litter! Kenai, Denali, Cheyenne, Astra, Mato, Makita, Kane, and Roga. From Montana to Texas these pups are living their best lives. It fills my heart with joy to see them all grown up and happy. I love getting updates about them and seeing how great they are doing.

Jinx's Halloween Suprise!

She was a great sport about it, it took maybe 20 minutes to paint her (can you tell I haven't taken anatomy in a very long time?) while she chewed a bone. I used non-toxic, water-based, dog safe paint. She was promptly bathed after. I am a little obsessed now.

Disclaimer- no dog fights here. Ember and Kylo are having fun. I used to try to stop it until I realized that Ember loves to be chased by Kylo (actually she loves to be faster than Kylo) and Kylo loves to chase her. It's a game they play and the teeth come out when she thinks he might actually catch up. It's ALL talk.

Though we say "sable" in German Shepherds, the more technical term for this coloration is Agouti. Agouti refers to a pattern where each hair has bands of lighter and darker color, often with a darker tip. In double-coated dogs like German Shepherds, this pattern is most apparent in the top coat, while the undercoat tends to be lighter and lacks the distinct banding. Sable puppies are born with a coat that provides some hints of their adult coloration. However, as they grow, they shed into a lighter "puppy coat," which consists mainly of the undercoat. This shedding is why sable puppies often appear lighter as they age. Over the next several months, their adult top coat begins to grow in, revealing the striking agouti pattern, and the dog darkens. The extent of darkening, however, is highly dependent on their genetics.

Here is Ember the day I brought her home at 11 weeks and then her again this summer at 3.5 years old. How dark she is depends on what phase of her cycle she's in and the time of the year.

Seriously, the puppy phase has been intense with this one. She would have made an excellent bull in a China cabinet. Is there a guinness world record for the amount of choas a dog can cause on a daily basis? Because she'd be a shoo-in.

But she's finally starting to even out and *think* before she acts, even if it's just to decide to do it anyways 😂

The puppies went to their new homes this weekend! It's always a bittersweet day for me. Here are some pictures I managed to get before they left! Red boy left a day early, on Friday, and I didn't get any of him, which is such a shame because he's such a handsome boy! But I have tons of video for keepsakes. Purple girl has not been placed yet. We are going to hold onto her and start a foundation and see if she's a sport dog prospect, she shows so much promise!

Ember! She has been such a great mother. My appreciation for her is immense. It's a lot to ask a dog to raise a litter of puppies for you. She gives so much and we honor her for it. We will not be breeding Ember through next summer, at least. It's time for her to enjoy herself and earn some titles! We'll be doing dock diving for sure, maybe some scentwork as well.

This!! Dog socialization is all about creating neutrality in public places. Especially with a breed like GSDs who generally do not enjoy playing with strange dogs. It always starts the same with their puppy at first seeming to do well, but as they grow developing reactivity problems due to being forced into close interactions they do not enjoy or know how to get out of.

We are enjoying this warmer weather before it gets cold again. Denali is enjoying more than the rest of us though 😂

Learning competition level obedience with Radar has been such a pleasure. Ever soooooo slowly we are improving!

When you think you've recorded your training session only to realize you didn't hit record 🤦‍♀️. But I did catch Ember having a blast with her toy. She knows how to let loose and have some fun!

This is one of our pups learning to shed hunt in the mountains of Montana. Nothing makes me happier than seeing the puppies we produce out in the world thriving and their owners using them for things they were made to do. We could not have asked for better families!!
