Chick culling.
This is a part of the egg production. Yes, even "free range" and backyard producers.
If they don't have an equal number of roosters (spoiler: they don't), it's because they were culled.

These are male chicks -- about 1 day old.
They are being tossed alive into a grinder. Deemed 'appropriate' disposal.
Other chicks are just left to suffocate or starve in garbage bins and dumpsters.
These babies are useless to the egg industry. Nobody wants that many roosters when your business is unfertilized eggs.

200-300 MILLION male chicks are culled every year, in the U.S. alone.

Fun time at the Glens Falls Vegan Fest today - lots of interesting people there. Many good chats at our table. This is the second one for Glens Falls. I can see it being (at least) yearly and growing.

We had a WONDERFUL time at the Glens Falls Vegan Festival today. (Thanks to AdvoKate!) LOTS of interesting people from the local area and beyond stopped by our table to chat and pick up vegan literature, buttons and stickers. Thirty people signed up to keep up with our efforts to nudge the local area (tomorrow.. the world!) to become vegan. Getting the world to go vegan would really help in saving the world from climate disaster - and the folks who go vegan will be healthier as a bonus.
We’ll send out an email to all soon, sharing our social media addresses for anyone who doesn’t have them and see if anyone wants to participate in our local meetings and/or protests and other events.
