Chip hung out with me in the garden this weekend. He’s so cute. Then he wanted a snack.

Chip Update
We have been working with Chip for several months with human contact to eventually hold him. Being so scared, placing him in a trap to vaccinate him would set him back. We wanted to ensure he would be comfortable and minimize his stress.
Dr Trevor messages when he was close so Anter held him ahead of time. And Chip received his vaccinations with minimal stress. We were all surprised he didn’t run off afterward. Can’t express how happy we all were.
Chip showed up for dinner on time and interested in pets and brushing. We are so proud of you Chip!!

Chip distracted at dinner time playing with Mayla (inside the cathouse). Needless to say, Turtle took advantage rage of the opportunity to eat the rest of Chip’s food

Been working on picking up and holding Chip for several weeks. Originally, he would spring out right away. Then he started to dangle when picked up.
He doesn’t get aggressive afterwards. Tho a swat of dislike is possible. He comes back for attention afterwards.

I’ve given up having nice orderly garden beds. The birds just see them as dust bath or scratching opportunities. It is relaxing to watch them dust bathe. All for their physical and mental health.

CHIP UPDATE
For a cat who wouldn’t let anyone touch him for over a year, he is doing very well. Being adventurous exploring outside and now seems to prefer hanging out on top of the hay bales in the feed barn. This was the progression of the other cats which ended at the garage.
Chip wants in the garage but the female cats are still protesting. Progress is slow but it’s still progress.
Chip is a love bug. We are so happy for him

5-1/2 Weeks Update: Chip’s world continues to expand. He enjoys exploring the barn but now it’s leaving the barn. He’s timid of new things but catches on quickly, especially if we are with him. He now lets all three of us pet him and so we are his mobile safe space as his world grows.
Mr Ed installed a cat door in his area to keep the chickens out. He hasn’t tried it yet.
When he gets frightened, he runs back to his safe space, then re-emerges when he’s ready. So proud of this little guy.

Starting to let Chip out is going to take time. He’s scared of new things so we sit with him while his world grows bigger every step of the way. He knows he can always return to his safe space to recover and then tries again.
Each session helps build his confidence and he is now used to the rest of the stall. But crossing the threshold to the main aisle will be a big step.
You got this, Chip!

Found Bogart up near the barn and then he followed me inside. Haven’t seen him up there in a long time. Treating him for bumblefoot for several weeks now has had him hanging closer to the run. Hoping this is a sign that he’s turn the corner in his healing.

With all the rain so far this year, the insects have been horrible here. So we decided to bring in the muscle.
The dogs just ignore the birds.

Many may not know that I work a full time consulting job to cover our expenses at the sanctuary in the US while helping to raise funds and awareness for Jan and Carlos’ rescue efforts in Brazil.
I’m traveling this week for work so Anter and Ed are caring for all the animals. Lambie decided to help while I’m away. Yay Lambie!
Bogart’s dinner time. He enjoys Al fresco and comes with a bodyguard to keep the rest away from his food. The “ber-kert” shushing gets me every time.

It’s been one year since Lambie and the goats arrived. Can’t believe how time has flown. They are enjoying life and loving large.
Some days larger than others😉 Glad they found their landing spot here.

Tried some together time but it didn’t last long. Added sand and some grass/dirt clumps to give them more of their usual habitat which seemed to go over well. Sprouting some mung beans to increase Pemphredo’s protein to aid in recover. It will take a couple days to sprout so will find her some bugs and worms to supplement feed.

Another winter storm started today. Medicating Blanche again. This time it’s her right eye. Not sure what happened but hoping to get ahead before it gets worse.
Lambie is our special guy. He does what he wants. Walks to the beat of his own drum. Sometimes it means separating from the herd.
We love him to bits just the way he is.

Blanche is finally back with the herd. Two weeks of segregation for medical treatment for her left eye, she is all better.

TORTATTUDE IN FULL EFFECT
The day warmed up and sun returned, so Turtle took full advantage of sunning on the tarp over Blanche’s temporary medical hold area.
So sassy and lovable, Turtle enjoying farm life

Happy New Year!!
Blanche’s eye looks so much better. Been applying triple antibiotic ointment and giving pain meds twice a day since Wednesday. The weeping has stopped and her eye is open and the cloudiness greatly reduced.
Dr Trevor is hoping to visit tomorrow to check on her but we are forecasted to have snow. It’s going to drop below freezing tonight, so hustled around tonight to complete snow storm prep for all the outside animals. Plugged in the heated water bowls, added additional tarps to where Blanche is segregated.
She has been stressed when she cannot see the rest of the herd, so we put Babs with her. She is much better. Trying to get the females to trust us, we are focusing more on Babs as she seems to be their leader. Always the first to eat, the others quickly follow.
Be safe if you’re affected by the inclement weather.
After the first egg found 10 days ago, no eggs until yesterday morning. Searching around the property was not successful until Astrid started to indicate. And guess what we found?
