Wally's story is not uncommon in the world of animal shelters. He was once a victim of an attack by another dog, an incident that left more than a physical scar. The encounter etched a deep rooted caution, making him wary of other dogs. It is not aggression that Wally harbors, but a need for safety and understanding.

For dogs like Wally, the presence of other dogs can be a reminder of a traumatic incident and can reignite fear and anxiety.

That's why, as a precautionary measure, we are looking for Wally to be adopted into a home where he can be the only pet. In a single dog household, Wally can receive undivided attention and care, allowing him to build confidence at his own pace and without the pressure of interacting with other dogs.

One of our main goals is to set up all of our animals for a successful adoption. We want our animals to leave our shelter with adopters who understand their specific needs and accept their needs. We disclose as much information as we have about each animal in our care.

Wally's previous attack by another dog and his reactive behavior in the kennel is why we are looking for a home where he will be the only animal. Our Wally has been in one shelter or another for years and we want him to leave Defenders with the best possible shot at a forever home. This means using the information that we have to find the right home...not just any home. The right home for Wally right now is one where he'll be the only pet.
