Riley worked hard to bring a dog park to the city for all furry friends to enjoy. She even made sure there were bags to dispose of your dog’s waste. Please be respectful of Riley’s hard work, all of the other pets that visit the park and the Public Works Department and clean up after your pets!!!

Riley's Dog Park, the first-ever dog park in Glenwood City, Wisconsin opened this weekend, and it’s all thanks to 10-year-old Riley Unruh.

The idea started when Riley, who wants to become a veterinarian when she grows up, had to write a paper in the third grade. "I saw my friends were doing one about why there should be a class pet," Riley said. "I did one about why there should be a dog park."

Riley showed the paper to her dad, who encouraged her to bring the idea to the city council. β€œI told her if she was going to do this, she had to put a plan together with where it was going to go, what materials she was going to use, and how it was going to be funded. She didn't miss a beat, she got right to it, then within a month or so, we were at a meeting,” said Riley's father.

Riley's plan got approved by the city council in November 2022, and she then began fundraising. She created flyers, placed donation boxes around town, and even advertised at a local basketball tournament. After nearly a year and countless hours of hard work, Riley's Dog Park opened on Sunday at Hinman Park in Glenwood City and Riley was part of the grand opening ceremony.
