Today we're celebrating at C.A.R.E.!

The kittens are taking over everywhere, and while we all enjoy their tiny toes, playful pounces, and soft snuggles, we're here with a few reminders:

Adopt - Give a shelter kitten (or any pet!) a home.
Foster - Offer a temporary home to a kitten, litter, or momma cat too.
Donate - Supplies likes beds, wet food, and toys help us care for the revolving door of tiny felines.
Spay/Neuter - C.A.R.E. offers spay/neuter vouches for owned pets, and a free TNR program for feral community cats.

Cosmo is on the prowl for a new home!
Our chunky cheeked cat is only 8-months-old and on the sensitive side. He had a hard time settling in and was shut down and defensive, but we're proud of our handsome shelter cat! He's now greeting us everyday, waiting not-so-patiently for pets, eating treats out of our hands, and chasing whirly wands.
He's done well with other cats, dogs, and kids too, but we imagine he'd like them all to also be soft and sweet like he is. And he may want to spend some time in a sanctuary room in his new home to get acquainted on his terms.

Brisket is C.A.R.E. 's longest resident after arriving on November 20th, 2024 (that’s not an award anyone wants to win).
In case you’ve missed his story, here’s the short version:
6.5-year-old Brisket lost his home due to landlord policies and had already been passed around. We weren't surprised that he was a little bit bashful, but within minutes, Brisket couldn’t help but let his 87lb beefcake energy shine! To make our big bully baby happy, all you need is to give him an endless supply of butt scratches, a tennis ball or two, and a patch of grass to roll in.
Brisket is also the best kind of dog, an adult! That means he comes trained, is ready to relax by your side, or take a snooze in the car after a pup cup. Brisket has lived with other pets, but he is picky, so he’s looking to go solo into his new home.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s easy to love, and who really needs out of the shelter, please consider giving Brisket a home or sharing his story ❤
Brisket’s adoption fee has been waived by a shelter volunteer who also agrees he is the best of the best!

Carrot came to C.A.R.E. through our transfer program after hearing our partners at the Mesa County Animal Shelter were full. He was able to get neutered, vaccinated, tested, and microchipped before landing on our adoption floor, where he didn't last long!
A family came in, took Carrot home, he's now named Butter, and we just heard that it was love at first sight. Butter is doing awesome, is the most cuddly kitty ever, and his new family couldn't be happier!

Meet Marley!
At 13-years-old, and 9lbs, our senior Yorkie has a big personality that comes in a very small package. Marley loves to be on the go, adores being the center of attention, and is looking for a place to call home where he can curl up with his favorite person (or people, he seems to like all of ‘em so far!). Marley has done well interacting with dogs at the shelter, but we also heard he was sometimes rough and rowdy when new dogs visited his home (and please don’t try to steal his bone, that’s not gonna fly).
Marley comes with a recent dental cleaning with extractions, neuter, and senior lab work (and he’s now on a daily pill for hypothyroidism), thanks to our shelter medical team.
Our tiny ball of energy is ready to go! And there’s no better time to adopt than during with $50 adoptions thanks to Cathy Bissell and the BISSELL Pet Foundation (through July 19th).

We just wrapped up mobile distribution days with LIFT-UP and Food Bank of the Rockies, and always have a great time meeting the people and pets who stop by (pictured here is Tootsie who rolled in on a bike)!
Thanks to Mountain Dog Pet Supply and R.J. Paddywacks Pet Outfitter, and our Hunger Heroes at FirstBank, we were able to share 1,658lbs of dog and cat food, along with tons of treats and wet food, with our pet-loving community.
Thank you for helping us make this happen and keeping our pantry stocked!

It's Duggie, C.A.R.E.'s baby pittie!
Our brindle pooch is only 6 months old and looking for someone to share a life with. Duggie has mastered sit for cookie time, gotten brave in a matter of days, and endured the works from our medical team (including a recent neuter). Plus he was a good sport about wearing his boy scout bandana 😎
He loves dog friends and kiddos seem a-ok too! There's no better time to adopt than during with $50 adoptions (thanks to our partners at the BISSELL Pet Foundation!).

Meet Kittee ❤
Our senior shelter cat is looking to pamper a new person. After unforeseen circumstances left her without a home, we took Kittee in and learned from her family that she likes to be a momma cat (to her human!).
Kittee is affectionate and gentle, and will make a great couch potato companion. She’d probably enjoy rolling solo, but a calm and cat-friendly dog should be okay too. Let’s give Kittee everything her heart desires!
She comes with a dental on the house, and thanks to Cathy Bissell and the BISSELL Pet Foundation, adoptions are only $50 through July 19th!

Thanks to Cathy Bissell and the BISSELL Pet Foundation, adoption costs have been reduced to $50 through July 19th. Help us take part in this nationwide effort to Empty the Shelters and ADOPT!

Our Mission

Colorado Animal Rescue (C.A.R.E.) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal care organization located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. We serve as the animal shelter for Garfield County and the city of Glenwood Springs. Our mission is practicing excellence in animal care, education, and advocacy to connect pets to their people. We work to place animals in loving homes, encourage population control, and promote responsible pet ownership.

C.A.R.E. strives to be the premier animal resource center in our community and greater Western Colorado. In addition to serving as a pet intake and adoption facility, we offer spay/neuter assistance, training classes, school visits, a pet food bank, and much more.

Our shelter operates off the basic premise that all animals deserve access to medical care, food, shelter, and love. We are guided by the principles of the Five Freedoms and believe every animal should have:
