Welcome to PCHS!
It’s no secret we love and care for the animals at PCHS, but there is so much that goes into what we do!
In honor of National Shelter Appreciation Week, we want to share some insights with you.
-We have 11 staff members who work at the shelter and we provide animal care and daily operations 7 days per week from 7am-8pm usually.
-We take in cats and dogs from a variety of situations (owner surrenders, stray animals, police seizures are most common).
-We work with amazing local vet clinics to get animals healthy and up to date on vetting so we can adopt them out to their new homes.
-We also offer low cost microchipping, occasional low cost spay and neuter, lost/found resources, and rehoming resources for our community.
In 2023,
-We took in 31 stray dogs and 22 surrendered dogs
-We took in 59 stray cats and 30 surrendered cats
-We took in 148 animals total last year
-Total adoptions: 147
In 2024 so far,
-We have taken in 23 stray dogs and 28 surrendered dogs

-We have taken in 41 kittens under 5 weeks old so far this year. 11 of those were born in our care.
-So far this year, we have had adopters from 51 different cities within MN, ND, and SD.
-We have been able to spay/neuter 66 cats through our low cost spay and neuter clinics so far this year including the cats planning to be spayed/neutered at our upcoming clinic.
-Length of stay: Our shortest length of stay in 2024: 1 day. Longest length of stay: 517 (current resident, Ralph). Average length of stay for cats: 79 days. Average length of stay for dogs: 145

National Cat Day
Letting our cats know it’s National Cat Day today!
It’s kitten season… again?!
This year has been a kitten season that keeps on giving.
Typically we see an influx of young kittens in the spring and early summer, but we’ve had several bursts of kittens this year. This week brought us another one.
We now have 14 kittens in our care who are weaning off of milk and onto canned food. Anyone who’s met a growing child knows how bottomless their stomachs are. So we’ve been going through canned kitten food at an alarming rate.
So along with this cute kitten video, we are asking for canned kitten food donations to help these babies grow
