Smoke Rise Ranch A western style family adventure in beautiful Southeastern Ohio. We have rental cabins, rental horses, camping, fishing and hiking. Weekend events.

The Ranch is operated by James and Donna Birthisel, following nearly 30 years of ownership by the Semingson family. The Semingson family brought a longstanding tradition of natural horsemanship and professional cow working, as well as being a family that welcomed all its visitors like one of their own. James and Donna have enjoyed Smoke Rise for a decade and are looking forward to sharing the knowledge and experience with the Smoke Rise family.

2025 is suddenly here. There has been much talk of our plans for 2025. Our plan last year was to become an ATV adventure park. This plan is still on the table but postponed while we work on “The plan”.
Truth is our hearts are in Cowboying. We had a friend come and offer us cattle for the year so we are going to try one more time! We will be putting our schedule out in the next week or so. We will be robbing trains, Team Sorting, Ranch Roping, Ranch Rodeos and of course cattle drives. Along with some youth camps and maybe a clinic or two. Of course camping and rustic cabins will be available. If there is something you would like to see feel free to message us. We are planning a couple changes, surprises! If you will.
Now the key ingredient to success is you! Come visit us and let’s keep the Cowboy way of life going.
We are working towards having Cowboying and ATVs. We think we have the property to do it, just need to work out the kinks. Or if no one shows up this year we may just do ATVs.

Here we are mid winter! The ponies and us have cabin fever. Our friends the Cains are coming this weekend Feb 1-2 and bringing their mechanical cow. We are going to work some ponies, drink a beverage, share some crock pot yummies and stand around the fire.
Come dust off the winter blues!
Everyone is welcome $20 a horse.

What a Ranch Rodeo!! Thank you to our sponsors! We couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you to John Wayne of Wayne Cattle Co for bringing cows all the way from WV! Thank you to everyone that came out, participated, helped or just hung out. There’s nothing better than a bunch of Cowboys and Cowgirls spending the day doing it just like the old days. It takes a village! Newborn baby goat getting cleaned up by momma! We were out of town while this baby made her way into the world, but Thankfully we have a village to help us! Thanks guys for helping this beautiful girl arrive! Now, all our customers who has some name suggestions for this precious soul?

This morning I got up early, didn’t feel good and dreaded another failed event. I went to the bank and come back and when I turned towards outdoor there were trailers everywhere. I’ll be honest I teared up. Today was another great Ranch Rodeo! The Cowboys and Cowgirls came out in force! We just want to say Thank you! We needed today. The grit, laughs and smiles. The Cowboy world is declining in our area and today gave us renewed hope! God bless the Cowboys!

We can’t wait to see you all here!

Fall colors are at their peak here at the ranch! It won’t be long before the leaves finish falling. Get your ride with us booked quick!

We used our new timers and clock for the sorting and fun show. I wish we had bought it along time ago. What a difference it makes in the sorting the the judge using the hand switch. Thanks to all that recommended it.

The ranch offers different types of horse events to give equestrians a chance to try something new or to get out of their comfort zone for a little bit. We offer trail riding, cattle events, obstacle courses, horsemanship clinics, seminars, and just down home fun events like Derby Day races, Train Robberies, and overnight adventure rides.
