Well, that very special time of year has finally arrived!! Opening day of the 2024 Whitetail Archery season is upon us!! I’m sure many of you are just as excited as I am!!
Wishing the best of luck to everyone!!

Unfortunately, I do not intend to take very many deer season. I have the opportunity to work with another Taxidermist who has 40 plus years of experience. I’m really looking forward to increasing my skills in the art of taxidermy! Although I’m very proud of the quality mounts that have left my shop over the last few years, I will be better trained and experienced once I start taking in trophies again next fall!!

With that said, I still want to stress the importance of proper field care!! Any Taxidermist out there will sincerely appreciate you properly taking care of your trophy prior to bring it into their shop! Regardless of their experience and training, they are in a much better position to provide you with a quality mount if proper care has been taken.

There is a plethora of information available to you at your fingertips!! Do yourself a favor and educate yourself!!

What a beautiful buck!! Justin watched this buck for awhile and even got a video of him rubbing a tree. Some of that tree remains on the bases of his antlers!! Congratulations Justin on a great buck!!

Here’s a super unique Whitetail deer! Look close, this buck actually has canine teeth! From what I’ve looked at online, it is claimed by many researchers that this only occurs at a rate of 1 out of every 10,000 to 20,000 deer!! Had Brandon decided to do a shoulder mount instead, I would have never even noticed it had them!!

I thought this was pretty unique and interesting!

Congratulations to Phillip on a great compound bow harvest!! This buck took him on one heck of a hike! He had the dedication and discipline to recover his buck one way or another!!
He likes the more natural looking skull so I did not whiten the skull.

Trophy Tree!! I did a couple of European Mounts for Bryce. He was running out of wall space and wanted something he could display several skulls on. Another buddy of mine (Paul) had sent me a photo just a few days prior with a great idea! This is what I came up and Bryce was pretty happy with it!! Let me know what y’all think!!

This absolute stud was harvested right here in Wayne County North Carolina! Although I’m not certified, using the Buckmasters scoring system I scored this giant at 134 5/8. This mount turned out beautifully!! Congratulations Jeffery!!!!

This deer was super special to Jamie. It was the first deer he harvest while sitting in the stand with his son Sawyer in quite some time. Father and Son hunts are hard beat! Closest comparison is Father and Daughter hunts! There is nothing like spending quality time together enjoying nature! Something neither will ever forget!! Congrats on a great buck Jamie!!

A great buddy of mine with a super nice buck! He initially did a European on his but regretted the decision! Although the European looked excellent, he wanted a full shoulder mount. The buck turned out great!! Congratulations on your trophy Sawyer!!

Congratulations Jefferey on a couple of great bucks! One was from last Rifle season and the other was harvested during bow season.
Wait until y’all see the absolute GIANT he was blessed with during muzzle loader season this year!! He’ll be a full shoulder mount done on a wall pedestal!!
I’m pretty sure my friends and family from all different states will stop saying we don’t have any big bucks here in North Carolina!!!

Hello everyone!! Mounted Tales had a great week in the shop! I completed four Whitetails and did the finishing work on a black bear!

Although I was honored and a little intimidated when a friend of mine entrusted me with what I consider to be a “buck of a lifetime”. This buck was an absolute giant!! He was extremely fortunate to harvest this, (believe it or not) free range buck in Oklahoma last season.

Congratulations on a tremendous trophy Stephen!! I hope I did him justice and you’ll proud to have him displayed along with all your other trophies!

The other three bucks were harvested by his brother years and years ago. He brought me some spare capes and I made it happen. They all turned out great and I’m proud to have my name associated with them!!

Congratulations to Brandon! Not very many hunters here in NC are fortunate enough to harvest a buck still in full velvet. We only have a few days to get on one within the first few days a bow season!! Again, congrats Brandon!

Here are a couple more I took over from a fellow taxidermist. Mr. Vine brought me the one in the middle back on 22 December 2021. He had been waiting for the other two since November of 2020. Again, after jumping through some hoops and over a few hurdles, I was able to get them mounted and finished up. It’s a wonderful feeling when things come together in the end!! Happy for you Mr. Vine!

I took this one in from a fellow Taxidermist and was able to finish him up. Lots of hurdles along the way but it all eventually worked out and Mr. Horton was happy to finally get him back! That’s what it’s all about!! I love to see the reaction of my customers when they first get eyes back on their trophy!

By the way, much thanks and respect to Mr. Horton as a Retired Army Veteran!!

What a great Father’s Day surprise for this fine gentleman!! His son Sawyer snuck out of a family get together with his Grandmother and picked this tremendous Buck up from my shop. They went back to the family get together and surprised Jamie with his trophy!! He was stoked to say the least!! I hear there may have even been some tears 😭!!!!
