***Reclaiming Your dog***
If your dog is impounded, you will need to go to Gonzales Dog Adoptions / Gonzales Municipal Dog Shelter, located on 400 CR 488, Gonzales, TX 78629, during business hours which are 10:00 am – 3:00 pm everyday including Saturday and Sunday.
You can also call Keiko (830) 857-4085 DURING BUSINESS HOURS. ONLY the legal owner can reclaim the impounded pet. If an owner is not able to come in, we do require a notarized letter from the owner allowing someone else to reclaim.
The owner or authorized reclaim agent must bring in a current Driver's License or state issued ID.
* Dogs without identification are held as stray for 3 days according to the Gonzales County code.
* Dogs not claimed by owners may become candidates for GDA adoption program.
** The owner who reclaim his/her dog AFTER MORE THAN 5 days WITHOUT filing missing dog report, will be required regular adoption process:
REQUIREMENTS -
* Owners must bring proof of ownership such as photographs or veterinary records when coming to reclaim their pets.
* Dog owners must bring written proof of current rabies vaccination. A rabies tag does not include the expiration date or the animal description, so it cannot serve as proof of current vaccination.
** If the owner does not have proof of a current rabies vaccination, the dog will be transferred to the Guadalupe Valley Veterinary Clinic to receive rabies vaccinations. The owner is required to pay the clinic the vaccination fee before the dog is released.
Please note that according to Gonzales County code, the animal shelter is not required to return a dog to its owner until the rabies vaccination is current or paid for.
The following fees will be applied on the dog's release:
PICKUP FEE: $10 owed to Gonzales Police Department for 1st pick up. Fee doubles with each pick up (2nd pick up -$20, 3rd pick up -$40, 4th pickup -$80, etc)
IMPOUNDMENT FEES owed to GDA- Initial vaccination cost ( Parvo/Distemper AND Bordetella) which were given to your dogs on the arrival ( for the safety of your dog AND our shelter dogs' sake) : $10 each ( total: $20)

* If this is a second impound or more within a one year period, owners are required to pay DOUBLE all the fine.
