Here’s my smiling boy - delighted to be back in Tobermory, Isle of Mull.

For those of you who played guess the location for yesterday’s post this is it. Mull’s insanly pretty main settlement.

Tobermory or Tobar Mhoire in Gaelic means well of Mary. The town was built in the late 18th century to a design by Thomas Telford.

Tobermory is a absolute gem, which is fitting because rumour has it there’s treasure in the bay. Local legend says a ship from the Spanish Armada carrying gold bullion sank while sheltering in the bay in 1588. Divers have tried to locate it since but to no avail.

Between 2002 and 2005 Tobermory became Balamory in the childrens’ TV show of the same name, making Tobermory the ‘must visit’ holiday destination for pre-schoolers.

I love everywhere we visit in Scotland but for me there’s nowhere quite like Mull. It holds a special place in my heart. I first visited on a school trip in my early teens and have have returned countless times since. Arriving back in the island always feels like coming home.

I’ll be sharing more of this wonderful Hebridean gem with you over the coming days so stay tuned.
