I’m sharing this because Karen puts it perfectly.
If your dog is showing any signs of kennel cough, please keep them home! It doesn’t just have to be a cough—symptoms can include lethargy, diarrhea, runny nose, low energy, or even a fever. If you’re questioning anything you’re noticing in your dog, that’s reason enough to give them a break from boarding.
With three geriatric dogs of my own and the many pups that board with me, I take every precaution to keep everyone healthy. I have strict cleaning protocols and a boarding policy to prevent the spread of kennel cough. If your pup has been anywhere near a dog with kennel cough, been vaccinated within the past week with Bordetella, or stayed at another boarding facility within two weeks of boarding with me please understand that I won’t be able to accept them here for a two week period, since these events have occurred.
Thanks to these precautions, I’ve kept kennel cough out of my facility for four years—let’s all stay vigilant to keep our dogs safe and healthy!
