Great wisdom!!

The worst part of learning ethical training?

Your eyes become open to all the ways horses endure harsh, even traumatizing treatment, day in and day out.⁣

Your knew knowledge is profoundly useful to you, and you’d never want to go back to your old understanding of horses, even if you could. ⁣

The REAL pain point is that there’s often nothing you can do about the horses around you suffering 🥺⁣

Now, there are times when action is possible and necessary—such as advocating for better policies in equine sports, and pointing out where abuse is systematically taking place.⁣

But when you go to your barn, fairgrounds, shows, or online communities… your peers are going to be doing things that hurt your heart 💔⁣

You know horses are suffering needlessly. You know there’s a better way.⁣

But right now, horse’s stress and suffering is normalized. People don’t see what you see, even if they’re well intentioned.⁣

Here’s the thing: people LOVE their horses. Most are absolutely obsessed. Many have their very identities wrapped up in how they ride and train.⁣

This creates a touchy environment, where advice (whether solicited or unsolicited) is often perceived as an attack on their character.⁣

They fight back tooth and nail, protecting their perceptions of themselves by defending their practices, or saying you’re totally wrong and your views are laughable.⁣

What can be done to help horses in this landscape? 😪⁣

Just like with horses, we can’t force people to change.⁣

What we CAN do, is BE the change.⁣

This may sound inspirational… or totally deflating. We get it. It’s not that hands-on, direct solution we crave. But it’s the truth.⁣

Some people will never change. Other people would change, if they had the tools and the knowledge to effectively do so.⁣

You get to be a lighthouse to those open to (and even longing for) better ways—who are currently being tossed and turned in the chaotic waves of the horse industry.⁣

Set the example 🌱 Share, post, educate, or simply exist the way you do with horses.⁣

Whatever you choose, know that while you may not change the whole world.. ⁣

You’ve already changed your horse’s world ♥️⁣

Fighting Chance Rescue 501 c3 we live the work you do!

Emergency fundraiser ‼️

This afternoon during an adoption appointment I got a message from Vada’s mom, Kimberly asking if I could call her asap. She had been tagged in a post of a wry nose baby born in Mississippi and after speaking with the owner, she had decided to surrender her to a rescue who could hopefully provide the care she needed. Kimberly has been through all of this with Vada and while we haven’t, we are closer and will use her and Vada’s case for guidance. So we agreed to take the baby, who was named Ava by the owner. It’s uncertain if baby Ava received enough or adequate colostrum so failure of passive transfer is the biggest concern right now, along with she has been unable to nurse sufficiently. We picked her up and are on the way to Dr. Longoria’s now. On the way there before we could discuss the mother with the owner we saw her posted for sale on Facebook. So we bought her. She was expensive, but Ava deserves to have her mother. She was 3,500 🥴🥺. Please pray for Ava and Dr. L in the next few hours as we try to get her stabilized.

3 Signs of a Connected Horse-Human Relationship ✨⁣

The energy that exists between horse & human is intangible…⁣

But there are tangible clues that let us know when there’s something really special in the relationship 🌬️⁣

1. The horse genuinely loves training time 🌱⁣

She comes running to the gate feeling excited for training to begin, stays engaged throughout the session, and doesn’t want it to end.⁣

She’s motivated to learn and move and play—even going above and beyond what’s asked of her 🐎⁣

2. There’s crystal clear communication 💎 ⁣

The human can see and understand the horse’s subtle body language, responding to her needs moment by moment. The horse doesn’t have to get “loud” or reactive to be heard.⁣

The human prioritizes trained two way communication 🔄 giving the horse tools to explicitly and safely “speak.”⁣

The horse has the opportunity to say “no” to fear, pain or discomfort inducing experiences, while the human takes up responsibility to make the experience enjoyable & safe for the horse, so the “no” turns into a “yes!”⁣

There is little frustration or confusion, as the human understands what the horse is communicating, when she needs things broken down into smaller steps—and the horse understands what the human is asking for in order to earn reinforcement 🌻⁣

3. Recognition of value beyond what the horse *does* for the human 🔮⁣

There is a respect for the horse as her own sentient being, and an appreciation for who she is at any and every moment. The human is open to learning profound lessons from the horse; about both training and life 😌⁣

There may even be an understanding of a spiritual connection—like there’s more to the relationship than meets the eye 👁️⁣

As if they’re together for a purpose, a divinely guided opportunity for more love and expansion 🦋⁣

How many of these three signs do you experience now? What would you add to the list? Let us know in the comments below ☀️⁣
