Our stallion HK Top Image traces back to Leo on both his Sire and Dam line.

Who would spend $2,500 for a crippled horse in 1947? Bud Warren knew how it looked. “I was the biggest chump in Oklahoma,” he said. But history proved otherwise.

By 1951, Leo had become the leading sire of 2-year-old Register of Merit qualifiers, three of his get held four track records, the “chump” was one of the leading breeders of Quarter running horses, and everyone had long since stopped laughing.

Leo himself had been quite the racehorse, before being injured in a trailer accident in Mexico, then suffering additional insult when he was being moved aboard a train boxcar that got lost in transit, then being kicked in the stifle by a mare he was breeding. But his genetics remained true.

In addition to siring speed, Leo also became known as a sire of top performance horses, and in 1989, he was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame. Learn more about him in the May-June American Quarter Horse Journal, one of your great AQHA member benefits.

For this week's 'Meet the Mare Monday,' we are highlighting My Blue Angel, a four-year-old mare not yet a broodmare but with plans for breeding this year to produce a foal next year. She is sired by HK Top Image and out of Macs Uptown N Plenty, making her a full sister to HK Top Miss, the mare we highlighted last week.

Throwback Thursday to Macs Top Miss as a baby. We try to have babies born after the snow. But this was the day after she was born April 15 2018. So they got a little turn out time that day before coming back into the warm barn. She had more fun then her Mom😂

We are showcasing Macs Top Miss this week. She is a 2018 bay roan mare by HK Top Image and out of Macs Uptown N Plenty. She had her first foal for us last year and produced a really nice stud c**t by HK Blue Sky. She is open this year. But will be bred back for next year.

Macs Uptown Miss the dam to Macs Maggie Mae. We bought this mare, to show, from Warren Ploeger when she was 18. Many people who knew Warren were surprised about this mare and the Macs Uptown N Plenty mare, whom we later purchased, and whom was on her side when we bought this mare. The reason for the surprise, for those who don't know, is because Warren was considered a "halter man". He bought this "pleasure mare" because she was had very nice conformation for a pleasure mare and he always wanted to try raising a good pleasure baby. He did just that in the Macs Uptown N Plenty mare. In the next couple weeks the mares we will be showcasing go back to this mare. Much like the Sonnys Illusive Lady mare, we pointed out before, this mare also became a cornerstone of our breeding program.

The mare we are showcasing this week is Macs Maggie Mae. She is by HK Top Image and out of Macs Uptown Miss. She is the dam to five foals, including a reserve world champion. Unfortunately, we won't be having any foals out of her this year, but will be bred for next year.

This is the Dam to HK Blue Sky the blue roan stud we are highlighting this week. If you've been following along, the week of March 18th we highlighted this mare and on March 29th she had her foal. Unfortunately the foal did not make it. At the time Fancy was doing well but very blue. Unfortunately, we have had a lot of lose this year, and on April 1st, we lost Fancy, too. Fortunately we still have HK Blue Sky to pass on the genetics of this great mare.

Zanzablue 2001 blue roan the sire to HK Blue Sky. Harold bought him and used him as a pasture stud. He had two foal crops for us. Unfortunately, he had to be put down after severing a tendon in one of his hind legs.

HK Blue Sky is a 2015 blue roan we raised by ZanzaBlue and out of HKFancyaRoanLady. Unfortunately, we were not able to get any of our mares bred to him last year, so we won't be having any of our own foals by him this year. We plan to breed him to a couple mares this year, so hopefully we will have a few come next year. Luke, as we call him, has sired five nice foals for us. He has been under utilized for a while now. We are hoping to use him more in the years to come. If you are looking for a stallion to breed your mare to come take a look he's worth it whether you breed to him or not.
