It's that time of year. Believe it or not fall and winter are coming. Kids are going back to school. What to wear for riding is always a question that comes up. What I recommend as essential gear is a TALL COUNTRY BOOT. They are (verify) waterproof, light insulation, versatile, and can be worn as everyday wear. They also have a spur rest. They can be worn under pants or on top.
For YOUTH I recommend buying oversized, and in the fall. That way you can fit a thick wool sock inside. By the time the youth grows in the spring, you can ditch the socks and keep wearing them through summer. If you buy nothing else, get these.
Paddock boots and cowboy boots are great but you cannot wear them all year, and mostly not waterproof. Get those as your 2nd boot. Don't do fashion boots that look the same, most of those don't have a spur rest. Some have strings that allow you to custom fit the calf.
I am showing Tuffriders which seems to be the best price out there, especially if you expect to only get a year of wear out of them. They come in youth, men's, ladies. Other brands are: Dublin, Ovation, and Ariat. Especially for youth, make sure your supplier accepts returns and exchanges for (hopefully) free so you can fit properly.

Looking for someone local to clean stalls and possibly feed horses in exchange for riding lessons or partial on site horse lease. Must be over 16 and have your own transportation. Exchange can be for your child's lessons. Time and days are flexible but must be set days. Willing to commit through the winter. Grafton, WI near John Long Middle School.

Some people ask which is your favorite? I can't answer that. Each one has their strengths. This week Dani taught proper longing and the canter to some riders. With her consistency, consistent gaits and natural collection. Easy peasy.....with all the miles Dani and I did over the years, she sure is pleasant company.

With all the wind and racket this last weekend we talked about obstacle training, how a horse thinks, feeling the pressure, being a leader.

Is it training? Is it torture? It's a great way to get to your goal faster. Bareback.....takes away the ability to brace and lean on the saddle/stirrups, connects you to your horse, puts you in your balanced seat, and engages the core. Don't fret....all is fair. I trotted bareback before getting him up there.

So happy to have Bullet back into our lesson program. 15 hand quarter horse gelding. He's a super good boy who has excelled at In-Hand Showmanship, English Equitation, Western Pleasure and low fences. He's also done trails, plenty of Parades, and even a little Endurance. He really takes care of his rider. He's also great at teaching people to post because he throws you into the correct diagnal, 😂 not like the super smooth Kigers.
