It was a tough Futurity Open Finals here at the 2024 Brazos Bash but these three year olds rose to the top! Brandon Westfall riding Izzie Royalty, owned by Jim and Gay Karhan, along with Monty Buntin riding Mr Rey Von, owned by Lesley Day, finished our Co-Champions both marking a 220! Third went to Cade Shepard riding Kickstand, owned by Adam Simmons marking a 217! Congratulations to all of the finalists and thank you to Badboonarising for this update!

It was an exciting morning here at the Brazos Bash with the 3 Yo Open 2nd go round to start it off! Brandon Westfall and Izzies Royalty, owned by Jim & Gay Karhan, took the lead with 218 today giving them a 438 overall score! The high score of the round was marked by Garrett Hampton and Gidgette, owned by Plus Heart Cowhorses, with an impressive 221.

As I reflect back on last night, wow what a night!
This was my first open finals in the big pen since I turned in my non-pro card and went professional !

For as long as I can remember cutting is all I ever wanted to do, I eat, breathe and sleep it. Down deep in my heart this is what I’ve always wanted to do but while I was a non pro several people would tell me “don’t ever turn your non pro card” Its a hard way to make a living and all the reasonings. It definitely is a hard way to make a living but this is all I ever wanted to do!

Last night was such a special night, I’m especially thankful for my parents without them none of this would’ve been possible. I have the best cow picker, coach and best loper in the business. They’ve let me show such an amazing horse! I am so blessed and forever grateful.

I’d also like to thank Dana Russell for believing in me on Chanell Westcoast and his support and guidance through all of this.

I want to thank all of my help Morgan Cromer, Clint Allen Cutting Horses, Austin Shepard, my dad Russ Westfall, and Madison Plitt for getting Chanell Westcoast ready perfectly every single time and everyone else that has had something to do with me I really appreciate it!

With all that being said, I’m now accepting outside horses .
