Nobody tells you how quickly dogs age
How one day you wake up and suddenly
their face is all white. Or how their eyes
start to seem more milky than before, or
how do you have to call their name a few
more times than you used to.
Everyone says not to blink if you have
children or you'll miss out. But what about
the dog that was there with you before
your children were even thought of? The
dog that was by your side before you even
found love. Nobody tells you to cherish
every moment you have with them...
Cherish the dog. The one that's been there
by your side through every breakup
followed you as you bounced from home
to home. The one that sleeps in your bed
and keeps you from feeling lonely. Cherish
him because one day you'll take him on a
walk and he'll get tired before you and
you'll realize just how many years he's
p*en walking beside you...

For outdoor setups cover with tarps on fronts of hutches secure bottom so wind doesn't blow them up leave underneath open, if you can afford heated dog water bowls will save you several trips a day.
If in a barn with cages tarps will help keep body heat in too.
Straw not hay for bedding
Electrolytes every dish of water. Chicken electrolytes work best if your getting from farm store.
Livestock electrolytes tend to have sodium bicarbonate, not good for rabbits GI.
Give extra feed they will need it to keep warm, boss also nice extra calorie treat.

Considering a rabbit in the new year?
Advice to pet parents
Are they expensive?
They can be.
Requiring a doe- if you don't want her mean and hormonal she'll need spayed. Dangerous and expensive surgery 250-550 depending on location.
-bucks are far more likely to not get mean and hormonal making a much better pet. Neutering if you think necessary much less risk & cost 250-350 and really isn't necessary for a 1 rabbit house hold.

Think you need a sold bottom cage? (Because wire is bad)
150 + for a cage then bedding 25.00 a week or more as they will stink if not cleaned often and replacing expensive bedding. Is not sanitary in most cases as doesn't get cleaned as often as needed because it's a lot of work.

-wires is not bad it's far more sanitary. Cage trays collect droppings and urine keeping rabbit clean.
You line with spa foot bath liner and puppy pad takes seconds to clean daily remove almost all odor, some complain about, for a fraction of the time and cost.
To invest in a proper wire cage and supplies you still looking at between 100&200 for new shipped from a reputable cage supplier. Drummor cages are garbage, don't recommend.
How ever this cage is going to last have better resale value if cared for properly.

Feed is also important, most pet rabbit diets are crap with lower protein and some filled with sweets seeds and nuts your rabbit doesn't need.
Buy a reputable brand that has 16% protein, no by-products, no corn.
Often these come in 40/50lb bags more then 1 rabbit can go through in a few months before starts losing nutrients. Freeze in gallon bags to keep longer, buy smaller bag portions from your breeder if local.
- I'd be happy to provide a quality feed for any locals 10.00 gallon size bag full.

No they don't require greens/ fruits or hay though you can supply both in moderation to adults. Certain places do sell high quality supplements that aren't garbage. TNT is a great one. Some breeder mix their own.

So for 1 rabbit approx 200 for cage, resting mat, water and feed dishes.
65.00 for 300-400 spa liners 120.00 for 600 p*e pads.
80.00 in feed a year (probably high side of feed for 1 rabbit).

Daily cost of your new fury friend with 1x cage cost including is under 1.30 per day for first year.
Unless you decide to neuter or spay.
2nd year about .75 a day

Thank you for all the bunny holiday pictures. Really enjoy seeing you and your bunkids and the updates!

Sadly we lost one from or bunkids family, Tw***ie left last week to the hop across the rainbow bridge.
She lived a pampered life full of s***k, she had the grandest adventures her mom so thoughtfully shared with me throughout her life. I will certainly miss those messages.

Please take a moment remember Tw***ie & her family who is missing her greatly.

Chin rub and snuggle your buns a little longer tonight.
They might only be a rabbit, but to us they are loved like family.

The Flemish Giant Rabbit: A Gentle Giant with a Rich History

The Flemish Giant Rabbit, known affectionately as the “Gentle Giant” of the rabbit world, has a history as grand as its size. This breed, which has been a part of our world since at least the 16th century, originates from Flanders in northern Belgium, a region known for its rich cultural and historical tapestry. Let’s hop into the fascinating journey of this remarkable breed.

Origins in the Heart of Europe
The first records of Flemish Giants trace back to the 16th century, near the city of Ghent in Belgium. Historically, the region of Flanders was known for its expertise in animal breeding, particularly for utility purposes. The Flemish Giant was no exception. Bred initially for its meat and fur, the breed played a significant role in the local economy and culture. It’s believed that these rabbits descended from several meat and fur breeds, including the Steenkonijn or “Stone Rabbit,” which refers to the old Belgian weight measurement of one stone (about 3.8 kilograms or 8.4 pounds) and the now-extinct European “Patagonian” breed .

The Rise of a Giant
Despite their early presence in the 16th century, it was not until the 19th century that Flemish Giants began to gain prominence as a distinct breed. The first breed standards were penned in 1893, marking a pivotal moment in their history. This documentation formalized the breed’s characteristics and cemented its status among rabbit enthusiasts. The Flemish Giant is also credited as an ancestor to many rabbit breeds worldwide, including the Belgian Hare, which became popular in England during the mid-19th century .

Characteristics and Legacy
Flemish Giants are celebrated for their impressive size and gentle demeanor. These rabbits can grow to substantial sizes, with some weighing over 3.8 kilograms. Their calm and docile nature has earned them the nickname “gentle giant,” making them a favorite among pet owners and rabbit enthusiasts alike. Originally bred for utility, the Flemish Giant has transitioned over the centuries to become a beloved pet and show animal.

A Breed that Hopped Around the World
The Flemish Giant’s journey didn’t stop in Belgium. In the early 1900s, these rabbits made their way to the United States, where they continued to gain popularity. Today, they are celebrated in many countries, appreciated for both their historical significance and their endearing qualities as companion animals.

In Conclusion
The Flemish Giant Rabbit is a breed with a storied past, deeply rooted in the culture and history of Belgium. From their origins in Flanders to their current status as beloved pets and show animals, these rabbits have hopped their way into the hearts of people around the world. They stand as a testament to the rich history of animal breeding in Europe and the enduring appeal of these gentle giants.

The Flemish Giant Rabbit remains an intriguing and majestic breed, weaving a historical tapestry as rich and diverse as its size. From utility to companionship, they continue to enchant and impress, a true giant in the world of rabbits.
