Tim and I were walking outside today and I saw this little guy. Something in my head said “don’t touch it, it’s poisonous. “I just knew I had read about it or something. Lol. I swooped it up on a stick and set down in a bunch of our chickens….not a single chicken went after it. Lots of them went and looked at it closely, but not one of them tried to peck at it or eat it. Good sign it’s a no good critter. So I came in and googled it. It is an AMERICAN DAGGAR CATERPILLER.
Its fluffy spines have a venom in/on them. It will cause burning, itching and a skin rash if touched. Keep kids and pets away from it.

Worms will be delivered first part of next week. I have been researching and preparing for these guys (and gals🤷🏻♀️) for a year now. I have jumbo red wigglers coming. They are composting worms. So now food waste, paper waste etc will feed them and they will turn it in to wonderful worm castings for our gardens. Then when we get too many wormies we can feed them to our poultry and/or sell them for other critter food or fishing bait.

The hens aren’t all laying consistently yet and we have some bantys laying, so we have just been collecting eggs and save them up. Then I scramble them for the kitties and I bake the empty shells, crush them up and feed them back to the hens. Keeps everyone happy. Lol. And of course Mr. Flynn has to have his “good boy egg” at the end of the day. Everyone is sooooooo spoiled. Lol. ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Do you know that when BIG poultry producers say they are cage free, it really means they have about 30,000 chickens in an open building? Or when they say they get grass everyday it is brought in to the buildings as bales of hay? They are charging you a premium price for “confinement” product. All the while simply using a play on words in their advertising to convince you that they are raising high quality products for you the consumer.
Hawleywood Acres raises our chickens on fresh pasture daily. They are outside getting fresh air and sunshine. Eating clean grasses that have no chemicals put on them, and bugs like nature intended. Fresh water and no antibiotics, added growth hormones or commercially altered.
Our chickens are processed at a state licensed facility while we wait. So we are able to offer customers FRESH chickens on the day of processing as well as frozen any time.
We grow our batches out for different lengths of time so we have a variety of sizes to choose from. Everything from 4 pounds up to 9 pounds and anything in between.
Our prices are affordable, and no more than you pay in your local grocery store. But you are getting a much higher quality product, and you are supporting a small local farming business.
And the most important thing…..our chickens are DELICIOUS!!! You can season they way you like, but they are perfect just plain.

Flynn is a one year old Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepard livestock guardian. We were not really thinking of getting one just yet, but it was one of those strange situations that just sort of “happens”. He comes to us from a wonderful family down by Wichita Kansas. They had another LGD that was, well, being a jerk to Flynn. Flynn was not getting to live his best life and didn’t have a reall “job” to do. So we thought about it for about a week, and finally decided that we could give him a loving home and a opportunity to do what his natural instincts tell him to. He super sweet, smart, funny and oh so photogenic.🥰. He needs quite a bit of training when it comes to who is his “family” to protect and who we do not “de-fluff”. But he is already getting it slowly but surely. And he seems super happy to call Hawleywood Acres home♥️♥️♥️
