✨THIS is what the recall should look like!✨Positive reinforcement, reward based training at its finest!
Maple is so happy and excited to recall back to mom because she knows that every time she performs this skill, she’s going to get great rewards!
This is how it SHOULD be!! Your dogs should WANT to perform these skills because we reward them when they do! It’s a give and a take. You get paid at your job, so why shouldn’t your dog get paid for performing skills as well?! When you teach them that great things happen when they do the things you ask of them, your success rate will greatly increase, and before you know it, you’ll have an incredible, well-behaved furry companion!

Kira - Extremely Reactive German Shepherd
🐾 Meet Kira! 🐾
Kira is a VERY reactive/protective German Shepherd who barks, lunges and reacts aggressively towards people, especially when her mom is present. Shes VERY protective of her mom!
Kira’s first few lessons involved me sitting in a chair, tossing some treats out to gain her trust. Each lesson was filled with barking, occasional lunging, and me being unable to stand or walk around without her reacting to me from across the room. With positive reinforcement and some serious treat overload, gradually, she trusted me enough to come take treats from my hand! I could even stand up and move about the training space without her reacting. We did a few lessons with mom leaving the facility so that I could work with Kira one-on-one to continue earning her trust, without her having to worry about protecting mom!
After earning her trust enough for Kira to work her commands with me and allow me to slowly start petting her, I began to introduce her to my husband, Alex. Within 3 lessons with me and Alex, Kira was able to trust Alex enough to allow him to walk her around the facility, give her treats, AND listen to commands! This. Is. HUGE!
There is still a lot of progress to be made as training is a never ending event, but to say I’m proud of Kira and her mom would be an absolute understatement! Kira has come so far!
I would also like to note that Kira’s progress has been made with ONLY positive reinforcement! No choke chains, no prong collars, no shock collars. The ONLY training tools we’ve used are treats and positive reinforcement! We utilized a basket muzzle when first introducing her to Alex to ensure Kira and Alex’s safety, but even that training tool quickly came off!
And I’m pleased to say, that I can now treat Kira and give her lots of love, even when she’s right next to her mom! In the beginning, I have no doubt that if I had directly approached their team, Kira would have tried to bite me in order to protect her mom (this is in h
How cool is this?! Nail scratcher slow feeder now available at the Academy for $17!! If you have a dog that hates nail trims, then this is for you!!
You put some kibble in each of the holes, and then your dog has to move the turntable to get to each hole to eat! There is a scratch pad on top, so when your dog uses their paw to turn it, their nails get filed down!
Want to get your “paws” on one of these guys?! I have two available, with more on order! Send me a message to get yours, or to preorder for the next ones that come in! Pick up will be at the Academy!
***We accept cash, check, Venmo and card payments!***
***Please keep in mind, this is not for every feeding! Too much filing can reach their quicks! Please only use this once a week or once every two weeks, depending on the length of your dogs nails! This also does not completely remove the need for nail trims! This is just a tool to use WITH training for desensitizing your dog to nail trims***
Our boys saw the Academy for the first time tonight! I’d say the happy tippy tappies and that huge grin mean that they approve!! 🐾💜🐾 #dogtrainer #k9academy #grandopening

Bloopers! 🤣 Sometimes training doesn’t go as planned! And that’s 💯 okay! Laugh it off and keep on training! 💜🐶
Crunch - our Foster pup putting in the work! This little man loves to have his mind worked and will do just about anything for a good snack! 🍪 (I feel that 🤣) He’s picked up the Down command in one ☝🏻 session and follows thru with the verbal, 🗣️ hand signal,👇🏻 and both! This is no easy feat for a puppy! 🐶 Good job Crunch!
Crunch is available for adoption thru The Good Life Rescue!
