Can the solar eclipse affect animal behavior?
The answer is YES!
When the eclipse begins you may notice changes to animal behavior both wild and domestic.
Many of your pets will start their nighttime routine. Pets may also sense your excitement during this time and feed off of your energy. So remember to remain calm around your pets.
Many wild animals will believe that it’s nighttime. Birds will fall silent. Crickets and frogs may start chirping and croaking. Nocturnal animals may start to wake up earlier than usual.

Pets and the solar Eclipse!
Many people have asked if they need to get their pets glasses for the eclipse. Although they may look cute, you don’t need to worry about fitting Fluffy with solar glasses. Unlike humans, animals don’t usually look directly at the sun.
Although the risk of retinal damage is low, we do recommend you keep pets inside the house during the eclipse.

Thank you for another great Pet Dental Health Month!
Although February is over we want to remind everyone that good oral health is crucial for a long and healthy life for your pet. Teeth are checked during every physical exam and dental cleanings can be performed any time of the year.
In the mean time, keep up with those preventatives and have a tartar free year!

Terrible Tooth Tuesday!
This is a cat that came in for a dental cleaning. Gingivitis can be seen along the gum line. Tartar and staining is noted on all of the teeth.

Fun Fang Fact: The groove on the canine teeth (fang teeth) of the cat are meant to be there. They help the cat catch and eat prey. This is a common place for tartar to build up and makes that are of the tooth prone to staining.

Terrible Tooth Tuesday!
Heavy tartar can be seen covering every tooth in this dogs mouth. You can also see pus along the gum line of that big tooth.
This was a very satisfying cleaning!

TERRIBLE TOOTH TUESDAY!
This dog was a former puppy mill dog that never received care until her recent adoption. You couldn’t even tell there were teeth under the heavy tartar! The odor was horrendous! Pus and hair was cleaned out from around the teeth. Several teeth had to be extracted due to decay. The dog was given pain meds and sent home with antibiotics.
The owner called back a week later and said that the dog was acting like a puppy again and had a better attitude. 😁
