Turns out we all needed a little Nola in our lives and what better occasion than the Oyster South Symposium 2024. This was the party of the year . Absolutely stunned! (and MIA for the next few days to relax and digest this massive success.

The Nature Conservancy was a proud sponsor at the event hosted by Oyster South, which holds this annual event in Decatur, Georgia to connect oyster farmers with oyster consumers. The event also serves as an opportunity to generate an appreciation and support for the clean waters and responsible stewardship required to produce food that is cherished throughout the southeastern United States, and beyond.

In attendance at Landlocked 7 were two TNC partners from Louisiana, Grand Isle Sea Farms and Bright Side Oysters. Both grow their oysters in an area off Grand Isle that is leased to a handful of conservation-minded oyster farmers working to make a living in ways that also benefit the environment.

We have an update on . Grand Isle, our farm and our neighbors were not spared.
Zeta was almost a category 3 hurricane with 110mph winds. The Eastern eye wall went over Grand Isle and our farm. It destroyed the Grand Isle aquaculture park leaving LA farmers with very little gear left.
All of our oysters, seed and gear, including cages, lines, anchors have floated away. We’ve recovered a few cages that we found floating in the Caminada Bay washed ashore the marsh lands. We’re still processing and trying to come up with some plans for future and ways to rebuild. We ask the local community to keep an eye out for any gear they might find during the upcoming weeks and let us know about the coordinates. We also want to thank everybody who’s checked in with us. Your good wishes mean a lot right now.

Hey y’all! Next harvest date is set for this Thursday so why don’t you go ahead and sign up for some local seafood! We’re taking orders for any quantity. We also have great news for Lafayette peeps - you now have a local pick up available. We’ve partnered up with Wild Child Wines so that you can get your hands on deliciously fresh oysters that were still swimming in the Gulf bay less than 24 hours ago. This pick up location is conveniently situated in the heart of the city and will be available for pickups on Friday 3-6pm. How about that? As usual, we’ll also deliver to New Orleans and Baton Rouge, will ship anywhere else.

LOOK AT ‘EM! These Southern Belles came out of Caminada Bay early yesterday, and were delivered directly by the farmer——in time for last night’s dinner (homemade linguini with grilled oysters, natch). Up next: oyster ceviche with strawberries picked up today from Landry-Poché Farms.
