Here is an update from his foster mom...
“This is one of my foster dogs, Rueben. His spot on the sofa was taken so he stared at me with his pouty lip until he gave up and laid down on the floor. He really needs an adopter to save him from this terrible abuse. He is adoptable through Grand Rivers Humane. He doesn’t like cats but he loves dogs and people. He is house trained and can be left alone in the house, he never destroys anything. He has quite the personality!”

From found very near death from starvation trapped under a Clifton trailer on 5/21/24 to happy, healthy, fostered & adopted!

Genghis now Charlie was 22lbs when found, now is 56 lbs. He’s an active and very happy dog.
Charlie loves car rides, playing ball and snuggling with his people. It’s amazing but he’s not food agressive, he doesn’t bolt his food or overeat.

GRHS is grateful he was fostered by a loving couple who ended up foster failing and adopting him. 🐾❤️🏠

This couple has been very interested in Chilli for a while.
They were able to come down to meet her at our Saturday Adoption Event at . It was love at first sight ❤️
They needed to figure out some logistics so they contacted their fencing contractor for their new house & everything worked out!! Chilli has a furever home! 🐾❤️🏠

Meet this week Celebrity dog - Ava 🎉🐾🐶❤️
She will be featured today on 🫶🏼

Ava, a loving and affectionate 8-year-old female English bulldog mix. Despite her short stature, she compensates for it with an abundance of love and affection. Ava is a happy and intelligent dog who has already learned basic commands like “sit” and “down.” Her gentle demeanor is evident when she receives treats, making her a delightful companion. With her cheerful disposition and good manners, Ava would be a wonderful addition to any home!

Happy Tail for Lulu Lime!
Lulu lime is a Manx syndrome kitten originally found and brought to GRHS at only 6mo old. Lulu Lime had been with us for 17 months. She is a very special cat with a disability called Manx Syndrome which causes problems with her lower spine and bladder/bowel control. This makes her daily life more complicated. GRHS had been searching for an adopter for Lulu Lime for over a year. We are happy to say she was transferred to an amazing rescue in the front Range who specializes in Manx Syndrome care. Lulu turned out to be a complicated cat as we learned more about her and quickly became an important part of the GRHS Kitty Korner. GRHS staff were always striving to learn how to help her to become the best cat she could be. Shout out to Dr. Bieberly for being instrumental to helping her succeed. Lulu Lime, we will miss your funny faces and sassy attitude lots but we are happy you are in experienced hands with Manx Syndrome Cats! A huge thank you to GRHS staff and volunteers for not giving up on her and their perseverance and loving attention.

🚨Emergency foster needed for our Reba girl 🚨
Reba was adopted on Wednesday but unfortunately it is not a good fit for the adopter. Reba needs a strong personality. She is highly stressed from 4 months of shelter life and was not properly cared for before she landed at MCAS. We have such a soft spot for her. She is an amazing girl but needs at least a month of crate rest/training. She is very mouthly and needs to be trained not to bite at hands. It is not aggressive but she is not gentle. She jumps and will nip at your face as well. She is very loveable and just needs some time, patience and training. She needs a strong, dog savvy leader to help her decompress and teach her manners. She is a great girl. She just needs a lot of love & a quiet home.

We are thrilled to share the good news from Dakota’s vet appt on 11/21!
Dr S is very pleased; Dakota arrived at Mesa County Animal Services weighing 23lbs on 11/15 and today weighed 27.5lbs!
Dr S said Dakota looks and feels so much better, has improved hydration, is still extremely anemic (due to no food, no water and was flea infested) and will need more labs going forward. Transitioning to high quality puppy kibble today, we delivered 2 lg bags of high quality puppy kibble yesterday. His p**ps look good.
He is getting stronger and is walking around more.
Now cleared to have a bath.
We talked to foster who will pick out a new comfy just right bed today at Chow Down Pet Supplies for him. Not too soft not too hard, just right for Dakota’s tender, bony body!
Thank you to all who have donated toward’s Dakota’s care, we are all working together to save this sweetheart❤️

Dakota 2yr m small size Pit Bull, found emaciated and not moving. He is a 0.5 out of 9 on the dog weight scale, one of top 5 emaciated dogs mcas has ever seen. He’s sweet and friendly.
Foster needed asap, we are working on a refeeding plan with Vet.

Mac is a sweet, playful 9 week old Australian Cattle Dog who found his way to MCAS.
He became a GRHS dog and went into a foster home while patiently waiting. 🐾🏠
Little did he know, that his was right across the street 🥹
The fosters' parents (live across the street) met Ender and fell in LOVE 🥰

Please vaccinate your dogs for parvo! 💔

On 10/9/24, a Good Samaritan found 5 puppies in very poor condition in the desert by themselves and took the puppies to MCAS. Rory was one of these puppies.🐾

Puppies tested positive for parvo and MCAS called us to see if we could take puppies. If we didn’t take them, they were planning on euthanizing them. 🥹

GRHS said yes we’ll take them, then immediately went to work calling vets. stepped up to give them the care they needed.

Puppies received lots of extensive treatment but unfortunately the sickest puppy didn’t make it though the first night - however the other 4 puppies lived.

After a few days, the puppies grew stronger and were able to go into a GRHS foster home. After 14 days they tested negative for parvo and went into a different foster home.
(HUGE thank you to all our Fosters 🎉🎉)

We are sooo happy to announce that all 4 puppies are now adopted! 🐾❤️🏠

Without loving vet and foster care, we would not be able to post “Happy Tails” for these babes. THANK YOU ❤️🙌🏼

Long term 2 YEARS later Happy Tail update ❤️🐾🏠 Toucan now Trooper is an older 100+ lb male Anatolian Shepherd who was abandoned at MCAS, became a GRHS dog and was adopted and surrendered back TWO TIMES. His current owner adopted him 2 years ago, hired a trainer, put in the work and he is now doing great! Meet our adorable local celebrity Grandpa Bob 👴🏼 🐾 Check out his feature on our local @kkco11news. 🐶 Grandpa Bob is a 10 year old male pittie mix who weighs 55 lbs. Grandpa Bob’s name may suggest he is getting up in age, but this guy still has really good energy and a thirst to explore. He is confident, adventurous and happy to lead the way. Grandpa Bob also enjoys relaxing especially when getting petted or his back scratched. He does pull some on the leash, but is learning to walk next to you. He does “sit” for treats.
