As we enter into the last week of February, Pet Dental Health Month is coming to an end, but that does not mean to stop on your pet’s oral hygiene care. Staying on top of oral health can keep them living a long healthy life!💯

Today, we wanted to discuss the different parts of a tooth, and why keeping your pet's mouth clean can allow them to have beautiful teeth their entire lives. 🦷

1. Enamel: Hardest substance in the body, made to protect the inner layers of a tooth. 💪
2. Dentin: Layer beneath the enamel that is strong but not as strong as the enamel.☝️
3. Cementin: Covers the root tooth, secures tooth into jaw.🧤
4. Tooth pulp: Innermost layer, covers the nerves, blood vessels, and tissues.💉
5. Crown: Portion of tooth above the gumline🔝
6. Root: Part below gumline that secures tooth to jaw.⬇️

The anatomy and structure of a tooth is pretty complex, so keeping those pearly whites free from plaque and tartar will allow many healthy years in your animal!😁

✨Dental Spotlight✨

Last week, Miss Maddie came in and Dr. Ringen performed a pretty extensive COHAT with extractions.

Even though she had over 17 teeth extracted she is such a trooper and doing great a week later!

Annual to semiannual teeth cleanings are crucial to protecting your animals mouth. Always remember, that “bad breath” is not normal in animals.

Concerned that your dog or cat may have dental disease? Give us a call so we can get them in for a dental exam 😎

Even though it’s winter, staying on top of your pet’s health is our utmost concern! Winter months are typically slower for most and are often spent indoors, but that doesn’t change that your pets need their annual exams, vaccines, bloodwork, and preventatives. ‼️‼️‼️

Preventive care is crucial for keeping your dog and cat happy and healthy. Annual exams establish a healthy client and clinic relationship as well as letting your vet visually see your animal and discuss any potential health concerns that may arise. At the end of the day, we want your animal to live a long and happy life with you so stay on top of their health and get them into the vet!🩺

With the warmer winter weather we have been having, we are not the only ones enjoying the sun. So are those pesky parasites! It is crucial to keep up on your pet’s flea, tick, and heartworm prevention even when the weather is not 100 degrees out. Giving year-round prevention can prevent your animal from any unwanted deadly diseases.

Do you want to discuss different options that may be suitable for your dog and/or cat? Please let us know how we can help.

When being told by your vet that you should stay on top of your pet’s dental health it can seem like a daunting task. I mean each of us has 101 other things to do throughout the day. How are we supposed to make sure to stay on top of our pet’s clean mouth? Well, we have put a few easy things you can do as a proactive pet parent that will help your pets' teeth.

1. At the end of the day the best thing for your animal is brushing their teeth once a day. Set a reminder in your phone or put it on repeat in your calendar. Get them a generic toothbrush (or a fun one if that's your cup of tea) and specifically a pet friendly toothpaste. Human toothpaste can be very toxic for your animals. Do a quick outside brushing of their teeth and let them be on their way.

2. If brushing is not your forte then do not fret, there are multiple other things that help prevent plaque and tartar build up.
A. Purchase VOHC specific food or treats that are made to clean the teeth as they chew their food.
B. Purchase water additives that you measure out and put in their water bowls that help with the pH of their mouth and slow the process of dental disease.
C. Purchase toys that encourage the chewing of the teeth, but make sure they don't get destroyed or ingested.

Staying on top of your pet's dental disease can help them stay healthier longer and prevent losing teeth. Every person and pet are unique in their own way, so if you have questions or want to know more then please give us a call or shoot us a text!

Last week Mr. Haus came in and spent the day with us. Haus originally came in for mass removal, but his pet owners wanted to be proactive about his teeth so requested a dental cleaning to be done as well. 🦷

Haus’s teeth were in good condition for his older age so a quick cleaning with dental radiographs was done and he was up and on his way! Being proactive and taking care of your pet’s mouth will prevent them from hopefully needing extractions in the future as well as giving them a long and healthy life. 😆

Stay on top of your pet’s health and give us a call so we can create the BEST treatment plan suitable for you and your pet’s needs. 🤳

Today is finally Friday and we wanted to give you a fun fact about veterinary medicine!

Did you know that in the United States there are only 30 veterinary medicine colleges compared to the 237 law schools, 179 medical schools, and 65 dentals schools. No wonder it is so difficult to get into vet school, there are so little compared to others!🩺

February is coming up quickly and do you know what that means? We know that it is the month of ‘love’, but it is one of our favorites due to being National Pet Dental Health Month! We strongly believe that the overall health of your animal is directly related to the conditions of their mouth. Dental health is crucial for people and animals alike.🦷

Next month we will get into the nitty gritty of who needs dentals, why dentals are important, and a few adorable faces of patients who have gotten one done with us. Our schedule is filling up, so if your pet is in need of fresh breath, please give us a call so we can get them scheduled!🪥

We know that our dogs are just as happy for the winter weather as we are… From fewer walks and less play time outside they go stir crazy. This typically is shown by bad behaviors like chewing up things or getting into things that they know they shouldn’t.

That is why it is important to still keep your pet busy even when they are stuck indoors. There are numerous toys and food puzzles out on the market that will keep your pup busier than 5 secs. Allowing them to use their nose and brain will exhaust them beyond belief! Keeping you and them both happy.

You can find these sorts of products at local pet stores and online. We have personally seen the huge benefits of these for animals. If you have any questions whether they are safe or a good idea then please give us a call!

If you have any insight on ways we can make vet clinic visits even better than before, please let us know!
