With nearly 20 years of dog training experience and an impressive background in counseling, school psychology, and behavior modification, Nikki has transformed countless lives through her work at Canines for Change!

Her vision has empowered children and adults with disabilities and in schools to lead more independent and fulfilling lives, thanks to the exceptional service and facility dogs she helps train and place. And if that weren’t enough, Nikki also works full-time as a school psychologist, balancing it all with heart and grace.

Meet Nia! 🐾

Nia is a 5.5-month-old F2B female goldendoodle looking for a forever family. She is loving, gets along great with other dogs and kids, and loves to play in the snow! She is eager to please and will make a fantastic pet. She is up to date on all vaccines, crate-trained, and recently groomed. We’re proud to share that Dr. Bill Barnes, Superintendent, Dr. Bill Albrecht, Executive Director, Jeff Palacious, classroom teacher, Gery Rehmann, Dogs in Schools Liaison, along with Sheldon, our dedicated facility dog, and Belle, our beloved ambassador dog, recently presented to the Grand Ledge Rotary Club! 🐾

They showcased the incredible impact of the Canines for Change Facility Dog Program in the Grand Ledge Public School District. 🦮🐕‍🦺 These amazing dogs are fostering positive school environments, supporting students and staff, boosting engagement, and promoting emotional well-being across the district. 💜📚

A huge thank you to the Grand Ledge Rotary Club for giving us the opportunity to share this heartwarming and transformative program!

Romans Birthday

Roman had a great birthday last week. All of his friends that made dog ear hand bands and wore all black to look just like him! He was a little sleepy by the end of the day but he definitely enjoyed his day!

Who are we celebrating now??? Well it’s our HEAD DOG TRAINER, Ashley! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU ASHLEY! 🎉🎊🥳🎈💜 Let’s pool together and give this gal some huge birthday shout outs. She is such a valued Canines for Change member as she volunteers and has the job to train our canine heroes. Ashley takes our puppies in training to the next skilled levels of obedience. This prepares the pups to become extraordinary canine heroes and change the lives of the people these dogs are fortunate enough to engage with. Thank you for being exceptional at your job. Keep up the fantabulous work and enjoy your special day!
