Our Story
Animal Clinic of Grand Prairie was established in 1955 by Dr. Phillip Myers. He converted an existing cinder-block, 2 bedroom home of less than 1500 square feet. The two small bedrooms were converted to exam rooms, the living room was converted now to a ward, the kitchen became a surgery suite and an enclosed porch was transformed into the waiting room.
At that time there were half a dozen or so dairies in the area that were served by this mixed practice that treated horses, cattle, swine and small animals. In 1960 the practice was purchased by Dr. Bob Wilson and Dr. Tom McLaughlin who manned the mixed practice along with the ambulatory service.
In 1966, Dr. McLaughlin moved to Cedar Hill and Dr. Wilson maintained the practice where in the late 70’s started restricting his cases to onsite only. In the late 80’s he proceeded to limit the practice to companion animals only.
In 1999, Dr. Mark Sheets joined the practice after serving as Hospital Director for the state’s first 24 hour full service hospital established in Irving, TX. in 1978.
The practice was purchased by Dr. Mark Sheets in 2000 whereby computers, practice software, digital radiography, expanded surgical services, dentistry and in-house laboratory services were added and or expanded.
In the spring of 2014 the practice moved to the adjoining property into a new 7400 square foot facility . The new Veterinary hospital has 5 exam rooms, treatment center, roomy wards, isolation ward, ICU unit, surgery suite, expanded boarding, grooming areas, outside exercise play yard, as well as a full kitchen where staff meals are prepared daily. We currently have 3 full-time doctors and 3 part-time doctors. Also Dr. Gene Giggleman provides chiropractic medicine for our patients.
Animal Clinic of Grand Prairie continues to provide small animal medical and surgical services for the needs of the continually expanding Grand Prairie clientele that now sees patients from a fourth generation of faithful clients.
