Mikennah started her journey with dogs as a bather in 2016. This is when she realized dogs are her passion and decided pet grooming was the right career path for her. As she continued to groom dogs firsthand, she later graduated from The Dog Grooming Academy in the summer of 2022. For a year, she honed her skills as a Certified Pet Stylist at PetSmart. What she loves most about her profession is the opportunity to forge strong bonds and trust with both the dogs and their owners. Mikennah’s furry best friend is her 11-year-old female American Eskimo, who is her loyal grooming model and inseparable companion. Please join us in welcoming her!

Good Dog GR is not a kennel. We do not confine or isolate dogs. We are completely indoors and climate controlled. Our facility is not that big. We have two main play areas surrounded by twenty-five suites and no walls. Suites and play areas are fences with privacy inserts to allow for visibility and breathability. Dogs are in their suites at night and for two hours midday for a nap. At all other times, dogs are actively socializing with each other and playing with staff. We ask owners to bring items from home to help with their dog’s separation anxiety when they spend the night.

The decision to limit the number of bully breeds that stay and play at our facility was strictly based on safety and experience. We have no breed restrictions for grooming. In the past year since we opened, the dogs that have mostly threatened the safety of our staff and other dog guests have been that of these breeds. We love all dogs. We evaluate every dog for behavior and temperament on their first day. It is impossible to get to know a dog in a day. Some owners are not forthcoming about how their dog reacts to other dogs. Every day we receive a growing number of requests by owners to keep their dog away from other dogs and we just do not have the space. Today, we have three dogs of these breeds playing at our facility because we know these dogs and these dogs play extremely well with other dogs. We are making exceptions.

We are sorry to have offended anyone. This is strictly about safety. We have received a tremendous number of threats and hate speech from everywhere, even those that live in other states, via e-mail, phone, and social media. It has been extremely hard to endure. We have been working in fear all week. We hope people eventually understand that it is all about the love we have for the dogs and not about discrimination.

Dear Pet Parents,

We received another notice of an upper respiratory illness (kennel cough) so we decided to close daycare today 3/16 at 12:30PM for a rigorous deep clean. Daycare will resume on Monday 3/20. This does not affect boarding dogs as we are able to relocate their accommodations to another area. Any pet parent that wishes to cancel their reservation for this weekend may do so for a full refund. We ask that you do not bring your dog to board with us if s/he is coughing, hacking or sneezing. Thank you for giving us this time to do what is necessary for the health and welfare of the dogs.

We recently have been made aware that dogs who are vaccinated for canine influenza and Bordetella (kennel cough) have been showing symptoms of a possible new strain that presents itself as pneumonia. Only a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test from your vet can confirm for certain. Symptoms, which can linger, are low grade temperature, coughing, sneezing, and congestion. Treatment includes antibiotics, steroids, cough medicine and probiotics. We share this information with you not to cause panic but keep you aware and informed. Unfortunately, even with the best cleaning protocols, the ability to prevent illness in dogs is impossible. We ask that you keep your dog at home and to limit social interaction for 7 to 14 days if s/he is:
• Coughing or hacking
• Sneezing or abnormally reverse sneezing
• Has discharge from the nose or eyes
• Is sluggish or not eating
