Please be aware of the dangers for fur babies this season!!!
Here are some things you should know:
Lilies β a single leaf from any lily variety is lethal to cats.
Mistletoe β may cause significant vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, collapse, erratic behavior, hallucinations and death when ingested.
Holly β can cause intense vomiting, diarrhea and depression.
Pine needles β produce oral irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, trembling, and posterior weakness.
Poinsettias β may cause irritation to the mouth and stomach and sometimes vomiting.
Tinsel and Ribbon - once consumed, this foreign body ingestion could be fatal as it twists and bunches inside your petβs intestines.
Snow Globes and Bubble Lights β often contain anti-freeze; which tastes great and is deadly to pets. Keep snow globes in a place where they cannot be inadvertently knocked over and bubble lights high enough on the tree to not to be reached by your pet.
Ornaments - can be broken into pieces that may lacerate your petβs mouth, throat and intestines. Not to mention that they may also be a choking hazard.
Christmas Tree Water β often treated with chemicals to help keep your tree from drying out and becoming a fire hazard. However, those same chemicals are harmful to pets, so make sure they have plenty of fresh water and that the tree water is not accessible to them.
Candles β always place on a stable surface, out of reach of your companions, and never leave a lit candle unattended. Better yet, pick up a Sniff Pet Candle at Groovy Paws and you wonβt want to leave the room with the lovely aroma.
Power β keep wires and batteries out of reach. Chewed wires can cause potentially fatal shocks. Battery acid can cause burns to paws, the mouth esophagus, etc.
Sugar-free snacks β Xylitol, a common artificial sweetener in baked goods and sugar-free gum and candy, is poisonous for dogs.
